Arctic Oscillation (AO) Forecast - from the NOAA CDC

A positive AO is associated with low pressure at high latitudes and high pressure south of 45 N. The pattern usually leads to strong westerly winds at middle latitudes resulting in milder and wetter winters in western europe. A negative AO is associated with 'blocking' patterns of weather and tends to lead to colder winters in western europe.
