Do you know what the Leeds record is ?

So we have lost the early lead but we are still on target for 38C however the loss in momentum probably makes 38.5C difficult.

I believe it is 35.5 in 1990, also hit 34C in July 2015.
Nearby Bawtry has reached 35.6 in September.
Generally a very warm part of the North/Midlands (however you want to classify it)

Patchy AcCas has largely cleared north and not held us back much. The Sheffield record still on! 🔥😎
The next two hours are crucial This is the period where the national record was broken.

Over the last hour at my PWS (link in signature) the temperature has risen from 33.6C to 34.8C (new record) but the humidity has fallen from 42% to 33%. As a result the heat index has slightly decreased; it peaked at 35.5C but is now down to 35.0C. Looks like it is still clear and sunny at home.
Metcheck has 37.3C close to Stevenage in Herts.

Remember the heat continues to build past the zenith (1pm) and the Chgeltenham peak on 3/8/90 was about 4pm.
Still game on as far as I can see and if this number is accepted then we've already topped the July record by half a degree.
Levelled out here @35cGone very quickly from blue skies to total cloud cover Looks very ominous

July record has gone.
At least 36.5C in Cambridge

Cambridge airport seems to be one of the hottest and I'm not sure if that is a Met Office approved one, or only the NIAB.
34.7C was the highest hourly reading at 1pm back in 2003 AFAIK. This time we have a 35.5C so should be on course. Cloud permitting!
Is that cell in the Brighton/Worthing area producing any precipitation at the ground? Is it expected to fizzle upon landfall?
Thanks Tim A. Very interesting. Given the general location of 'Donny' and its surrounding (generally) flat countryside. it comes as no surprise that it would be subject to some very high maxima like under the right conditions.

July record is 36.7C so record not confirmed yet. Is that the airport? I am not sure that is a Met Office site. The Cambridge NIAB is though.
July record has gone - Met Office just tweeted 36.9c at Heathrow
Haha - I was clearly too slow!
July record gone 36.9c at Heathrow
