If and it's a big if some of those charts do verify then a red would definitely be warranted - it will most likely be connected to the line convection as it passes through. Some places could see some really destructive gusts tomorrow.
At present it's shaping up to be the worst storm since 2002 - at least in terms of the widespread nature of the damaging winds.
Currently living at roughly 65m asl North of Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Given a cold front is due to pass through during the day is there any risk of an inversion causing such an effect somewhere? I might have misunderstood that though

Looking at Euro4 there are three waves of strong winds modelled into the southwest. One in the early hours tonight, one in the middle of tomorrow and then the strongest arriving early on Monday.

I doubt it, unless the majority of models swing behind ARPEGE. At the moment, it's somewhat of an outlier.


Down here in my part of north Kent, for example, we have the following gusts:


HARMONIE - 81mph


ARPEGE - 76mph


AROME (high-res model, related to ARPEGE) - 73mph


GFS - 69mph


ICON - 68mph


Euro4 (6z) - 68mph


Met Office - 63mph


BBC - 63mph


GFS has been going down today, the BBC and Met Office have gone up slightly.


I would expect gusts generally in the 65-70mph range here as a result. I think (and certainly hope!) ARPEGE and its close cousin AROME have gone off on one.

Managed sleep until 0215 when awoken by a crash. I'm in a roof apartment on the edge of Ilkley Moor. It's really noisy now. I see according to weatheronline Dunn Fell has recorded 92mph, Loftus 70mph and my nearest station LBA 65mph.

I have been woken up my the wind here in East London.

I live in a new build so it has to be pretty strong to hear.

We are still very early with this system. Another 12hrs of wind to go.

I expect we are are going to see a fair bit of disruption from this.

Remember lots of weakening will be happening early on ready for the big gusts.

Needles Old Battery on the west coast of the Isle of Wight recorded a gust of 130kph in the last hour. That is just over 80mph. Very likely that a reading close to or over 100mph will be recorded later today. It is an exceptionally exposed site.

Really ramped up here now in Ilkley. LB Airport now recorded 68 mph. Lashing heavy rain and spray. Just look at those rain echoes on the Pennines. We have a constant roar going on!
