BIG SUNSPOT ALERT: A big, rapidly growing sunspot is turning to face Earth this weekend. AR2936 is one of the largest sunspots in years and it could soon pose a threat for strong Earth-directed flares.

James Webb telescope begins to focus its 'big eye'
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-60354910

"It will take a while, at least a couple of months, and science teams will also have to tune the telescope's four instruments.
But when all the preparations are done, Webb is expected to return some astonishing views of deep space.
We should see the first "Wow!" imagery released by the US space agency (Nasa) in June or July."

Heads up for some Zodiacal Light!
https://spaceweather.com/

Giant dust storms on the Red Planet leak into space, filling the plane of the Solar System with tiny grains. We can actually see the marsdust with the naked eye because it scatters sunlight, producing the triangular glow in Horálek's photo.

"A good display is coming in just a few days," says astrophotographer Petr Horálek

SpaceWeather.com heads up for "Termination Event". Best you read it!
THE TERMINATION EVENT HAS ARRIVED: Something big just happened on the sun. Solar physicists Scott McIntosh (NCAR) and Bob Leamon (U. Maryland-Baltimore County) call it "The Termination Event."

Heads up....
GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH (G2-CLASS): Earlier today the sun launched a full halo CME into space. The storm cloud is expected to hit Venus on March 13th followed by Earth later the same day. NOAA forecasters say that G2-class geomagnetic storms are possible when the CME arrives.

"CME IMPACT SPARKS GEOMAGNETIC STORM: As predicted, a CME hit Earth's magnetic field today, March 13th. The impact has sparked a moderately strong G2-class geomagnetic storm. When the CME arrived, "the sky exploded," reports John Dean..."

Will do, WW! We have seen auroras in Lincolnshire - but rarely.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH (G1-CLASS): Yesterday, the sun launched a coronal mass ejection (CME) toward Earth. Forecasters are divided on when it might arrive--sometime between midday on March 27th and early March 28th. The impact could spark minor G1-class geomagnetic storms with equinox auroras boosted by the "Russell-McPherron effect.

Here's an interesting piece:

A 'CANNIBAL CME' IS APPROACHING EARTH:

A strong G3-class geomagnetic storm is possible later this week when a 'Cannibal CME' hits Earth's magnetic field. It's a 'cannibal' because it ate one of its own kind en route to our planet. The mash-up of two CMEs could spark naked-eye auroras visible from northern-tier US states. Full story @ https://spaceweather.com/

Enjoy.

X-CLASS SOLAR FLARE: Earth-orbiting satellites have just detected a powerful explosion on the sun. The X1.3-class flare on March 30th (1737 UT) caused a shortwave radio blackout over the Americas and has almost certainly hurled a CME toward Earth. Follow this developing story:

What happened or went wrong with the forecast aurora this week? I read an article that said solar flares were on way and should result in visible aurora last night. However, last night came and went with no alerts ?

Something to look out for! Errr - maybe we won't be around to see it!

Nasa scientists spy 'largest comet ever seen'
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-61097826

A comet with a nucleus 50 times bigger than normal is barrelling towards Earth at 22,000 miles per hour.
Nasa's Hubble telescope has determined the comet's icy nucleus has a mass of about 500 trillion tonnes and is 85 miles (137km) wide - larger than the US state of Rhode Island.
But not to worry. The closest it will get is one billion miles away from the Sun, and that won't be until 2031.
