Isn’t Charlwood very sandy soil?

Temps pegged back here from a high of 35.5c down to 35.1c. The wind is changeable but generally moved round to a SSW from SSE direction, and gusting to 20mph.

Slightly crazy if we get to 35.5c at 11:30 and still miss our record here of 35.8 set in 2019...

I’m no longer in mid Sussex but at Hurstpierpoint in West Sussex. I had a minimum of 25.2C last night and was pretty much matching Charlwood’s rise this morning which is about 15 miles north of here. I got to 37.2 around the time Charlwood was 37.3 but I have since dropped back to 36.7C with a breeze picking up from the south so we may now be getting moderation from the sea, although the wind is variable and gusty. This incredible hot air may slowly be on its way north I think to coincide with the greatest heating of the day ?

All people are saying is that it’s questionable given the rate of rise. Don’t worry though, even if this isn’t somewhere will hit 40c

It’s clearly academic, it’s clear the record will go somewhere else.

My thermometer just touched 39c briefly - its on a north-east facing wooden surface.

We have a new all time record now at 39.1C . Further ones will be coming in as there's another 3 and a half hours of further heating possible.

Gatwick is now 37c at 11.50am, we don't know the exact decimal figure or the max though.

Risen quickly like Charlwood but a couple of degrees lower.

35.6C at Blackbushe at midday. Really does feel properly furnace like now.

I made the mistake of leaving the candles from our dinner last night on the patio table. Liquefied!
