The warm and mixed May is drawing to a close but the weather will be staying similar with generally warm temperatures but frequently unsettled weather bringing showers and longer spells of rain at times.

Saturday morning has been mostly dry with plenty of sunshine but there is some light rain across East Anglia and eastern England with more wet weather approaching the far south west. The rest of the day will see further light rain at times getting into far eastern regions with some scattered showers developing in the Midlands and north Wales. South west England and south Wales will have rain at times but most places will stay dry today with plenty of sunny spells. Temperatures will range from just 13C in the east to 21C in the west.

Overnight, wet weather spreads from the north sea into northern and northeastern England with outbreaks of rain pushing northeastwards across the central and southern parts of England and Wales. Much of Scotland will stay dry and southern England will turn drier later. Temperatures range from 9C to 13C.

Sunday finds outbreaks of showery rain pushing northwards through northern England to southern Scotland. Heavy, thundery showers break out across Northern Ireland, England and Wales though central and northern Scotland could stay dry. Watch out for afternoon thunderstorms giving flash flooding in places though some places will miss the downpours and stay dry all day. Temperatures will be cool in the north and west at 12C top 16C but warm in the south and east at 18C to 21C.

Bank Holiday Monday starts with showery rain through Scotland and northern England. Sunshine and showers will develop in most places through the morning with the showers becoming increasingly confined to eastern counties on Monday afternoon as the west and south west turns drier. A cooler day with temperatures of 12C to 18C, which is close to average for late May.

The next area of low pressure starts pushing through on Tuesday. Outbreaks of showery rain spread northeastwards across Northern Ireland, England and Wales with a few heavier bursts in places. Scotland and north east England should stay mostly dry. Temperatures range from 12C to 17C.

Showery weather continues in Wednesday. Central and northern regions will have some heavy showers but southern counties probably have a drier day with more in the way of sunny spells. Temperatures will be close to average at 12C to 18C.

High pressure builds to the west of the country on Thursday and Friday. We should have a mostly dry day in the western regions but the north and east will have showers at times and some of them could be quite heavy. Temperatures will be fairly cool at 10C to 18C.

Next weekend probably brings drier conditions to much of the country. There should be fairly decent sunny spells but watch out for a few showers in places. Temperatures will be pleasant by day in the May sunshine but cool by night - even with a slight risk of ground frost in places.

Summary: Staying mixed with showers or longer spells of rain at times. Temperatures near normal but cooler later.

Cheers Gavin. Thanks for that. In many ways just what I expected really.  🙂
