Very nice and proper summer, wish the weather here get a grip and move on from winter to summer weather now.  If only we can get 18-20C overnight here and 28-32C at daytime, very useful with longest daylight now.

Oh after what is looking like another winter-like summer here in Cornwall, I am looking forward to returning to Canada with great anticipitation. New Brunswick by their standards is having a fairly poor spring and start to summer, that being said their 20-25C is far better than my 12-15C.

I miss coming home from work and being able to enjoy the outdoors instead of being couped up indoors.

Looks like turning hot in southern Ontario next week with highs into the 30s and muggy overnight lows in the low 20s.

Unsettled and cool for Alberta into the Prairies again, though the GFS is hinting at something more summerlike by later next week.

I know you're busy with family at the moment Stewart but what a disasterous few days for the Blue Jays: losing three starting pitchers in four days. Expectations for the rest of the season now severely curtailed!

The heat is indeed on in southern Ontario having transferred eastwards from the midwest. 32c in Toronto right now, with a high of 34c expected tomorrow. The heat builds into New England and the I-95 corridor, Boston was just 64f yesterday and 75f today but will be in the mid to high 90s Thursday and Friday. A few places in the NE States and mid-Atlantic will no doubt hit 100f before everything cools off again west to east by the weekend.

Now upgraded to 35C.  Very interesting to record those temps which I wish to see over here if London can get 20-21C overnight and 33-34C by day this week.  Once again northern blocking have no impact on their summers like here.

Heatwave has broken in SE Canada, NE States. Toronto (Pearson) recorded:

Tuesday 33.4c
Wednesday 34.6c
Thursday 34.4c

before cooling off to 27c yesterday, 28c forecast for today with sunny spells.

Meanwhile after some unsettled weather to start the summer the Prairies are looking at some fine conditions upcoming. For me weather forecasts don't come much better than this at this time of year: http://weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/mb-38_metric_e.html Abundant sunshine, warm to very warm days and relatively pleasant overnight.

More unsettled as you head further west through Calgary and out to Vancouver with some pleasant days mixed with some unsettled ones.

Looking at the GFS the core of the heat in NA remains focused over the southern and central Plains, through to the desert SW and stretching north to Idaho. It hit 100f in Denver, CO yesterday and could again today, and it looks like remaining hot, with highs in the mid-90s in the week ahead.

The rollercoaster season continues for the Jays, Stewart, with another high-scoring win against Miami last night. Question is, how long can the team stay in contention with a much depleted starting rotation?

Enjoy the weekend!

After a brief cool down more sunny days and higher temps again. This would be very interesting observation to me and worth to invest top of the range weather station, not worth spending a penny for here where there no summers at all.

First 100f readings for Dallas, Houston, Oklahoma City today: http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/first-100degree-day-for-dallas/66911 I'm sure residents aren't looking for a repeat of last summer's record breaking number of 100f+ days (they ended up with 71 in Dallas, breaking the previous record of 69 from 1980).

Meanwhile TS Debby has formed in the Gulf of Mexico: http://www.weather.com/weather/hurricanecentral/storms/2012/Debby More on that on the dedicated hurricane thread, no doubt.

More summer heat for them and talked to my uncle there yesterday, interesting he told me about the violent thunderstorm struck in his area and house opposite him, their tree got struck by lightning and fell to the neighbour garden which damaged their fence.

Sad that UK that once used to host heatwaves and thunderstorms every single year had never return again since mid 2000's.  Last time I saw when I was in Chicago and the Philippines both last year.

Looks like temperatures in Chicago could reach 100f+ on Thursday. The first time in 7 years this has happened apparently. I have friends going there on Tuesday and the heat seems to stick around till then with temps staying 90f-95f.

The heatwave over the central and southern Plains of the US is now expanding eastwards: currently 108f in Saint Louis, MO.

Tomorrow just looks brutal for much of the Midwest, South and into the Mid-Atlantic. A few sample highs in the forecast:

Washington, DC 104f
Memphis, TN 105f
Atlanta, GA 104f

Temps are/will be approaching or breaking June records across a wide area (and in a few cases, all time record highs will be broken no doubt). Pick of the last few days has been Hill City, Kansas where the recorded max temps since Saturday have been 110f, 114f, 110f, 114f, 115f.

Hello folks, i am still alive! Got just 2 secs so thought i'd do an extremely quick post to say it's hot and humid again here in Ontario, maybe not as much so as further S & W, not yet anyway! Holiday with the family staying was awesome, amazing weather one or two storms for extra excitement.

Hopefully will get the chance to post more in-depth tomorrow once the office takes a back seat for a couple days.

Another day another all-time high temperature recorded in a major US city. Yesterday it was Atlanta, GA with 106f beating the previous record of 105f set in 1980. More 100f+ readings today across the south and into the midwest.

Glad you had a good time with your family Stewart, the weather certainly did its part! Enjoyed watching the Jays yesterday thumping the Angels 11-2. The starting pitching is in crisis with injuries but the team is really picking up in the hitting stakes. Be interesting if they buy or sell come the trade deadline, what with the extra wildcard on offer this year.

Happy Canada Day - looks a decent forecast for many cities:

Toronto sunny spells 29c
Montreal sunny spells 28c
Halifax sunny 30c
Charlottetown sunny 28c
St John's clearing to sun and clouds, 24c
Winnipeg sunny 30c
Regina sunny 29c
Calgary, showers (risk of thunderstorm) 22c
Vancouver, showers 19c

July has just started and so far this summer is a scorcher. Metorogically speaking, Summer didn't start until June 20 but the weather at the end of 'spring' was very summerlike. We recorded the first heatwave of 2012 with 3 consecutive days of 32c or higher on June 19-21, ending with a high of 34c in Toronto, 35c in Markham, ON and 33c in Hamilton. The heatwave brought with it humidex values of 42-45, it was hot.....very hot!possibly too hot for some! That heatwave broke with a line of Thunderstorms that brought significant rain to areas NE of Toronto between Barrie & Oshawa and many Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were also issued on that Thursday afternoon.

This is a snapshot of the two weeks that my family visited, couldn't have asked for better weather - very akin to my first visit here to Ontario in 2005. Since they left 9 days ago, the weather has stayed very similar with warm to very warm days and very if little rain. There seems to be a pattern just now where TWN and localcasts call for showers or T-Storms and cooler weather 3-5 days out and by the time that time arrives the temps are higher and the rain gone or diminished.

So, as last weekend came, Southern Ontario joined most of C & E United States in a plume of very warm and in some spots hot air. As has been covered excellently on here, temps well into the 100f range and appressive humidex of 115-120f region. Throw in a sequence of severe Thunderstorms on Friday and Friday night across a wide area from IN to the Atlantic Seaboard and you have a very nasty mix. Today, there are still over 1m people without power in the worst affected areas in Maryland and around the District of Columbia.

Today it's 30c in Toronto, 29c in Hamilton and going to stay that way for most of this week with the chance as previously mentioned of a Thunderstorm or two on Tuesday & Thursday. Summer 2012 one to remember so far.

As for the Jays, we visited the team shop Graeme when the family were here and i've got a pic of Roy Halliday's jersey that they have carefully framed in a cabinet with an in-depth explaination of his role within the Blue Jays. I'll need to post it on here if i get the chance. Also took the stadium tour and not sure if you knew of the story around his 'box' in Tier 3 where he let it out to sick kids from local hospicies/hospitals while he was in Toronto, a tradition the ball club has kept since he departed in another part of the Skydome. He really seems to be a class guy who made a massive impression on the workers not just the fans of the Blue Jays.

Still, inconsistant though on the field having lost 10-6 to the Angels the other night, 40-39 record. The pitcher injury stuff you couldn't make it up. Local press were celebrating at one point an injury free game during the past 3 weeks, which also saw Brett Lawrie pick up a side strain going for a catch in one of the games. It was great as well with the time off to watch most of their games on tele and go to one also, something that work takes away from you from time to time.

For me, i got a promotion at work which is likely to further restrict my time on this forum unfortunately. I'll still check-in when i can but the days of posting on here day after days are probably over. More travelling also for me as my time will be split between our Toronto & Hamilton offices, either GO Transit and get a free ride if it's late by 15mins or sit in the 403/401 jam every day? Not made my mind up yet on that one!
