However I do wonder if they'd be better going somewhere like Kamchatka as, barring unforeseen circumstances, the live "action" in Iceland will be rather limited.

Sounds interesting.
I was there earlier in this year and heard a few stories.
They seem to be recovering well though, since most of the ash was exported.LOL.

We brought some home as a souvenier all the same.

Just to help with the exports.

The Icelandic met office keep good updates on activity there .btw.

Interesting to see that Nicargua's San Christabel volcano has erupted (rather impressively) only a few days after the 7.6 magnitude quake in neighbouring Costa RIca.

A bit of a run on Geirfugladrangur in SW. Iceland lately.
Most likely part of a swarm, but interesting all the same.

There's been an earthquake swarm at WSW of Old Faithful Geyser, Yellowstone.

On other side of the world, The Klyuchevskoy volcano, the highest active volcano in Eurasia, has started erupting in Kamchatka.

And there is a strong concern in the media about a future eruption of Mt Fuji.

This is pary of an ongoing warm in the Tjörnes Fracture Zone to the north of Iceland. Apparently there are no volcanoes in the immediate vicinity but there have been a large number of quakes in the region over the last 24 hrs or so, so it will be interesting to see what if anything develops in the coming days.

Here is a couple of useful links:
