After this on Saturday for me and the misses it's off to Australia for a couple weeks, not returning to Canada until the 28th of June. Hope all is good back in the UK for Graeme, couldn't remember but weren't you due over in Toronto either May or June? Hope you caught a Jays game if that was the case, still that word 'inconsistancy' sums them up this season as many before.

Went to a couple of Blue Jays games which I thoroughly enjoyed - the team's even started playing some good baseball of late with a weekend sweep of the Rangers!

Hope you enjoy your time in Australia!

Meantime summer is re-establishing itself over southern Ontario this week with plenty of sun and temps up to 29c in Toronto by Friday.

I know I have not been here for a while, full report will come in soon I hope.  However, for now, here's some photos of the Bow river close (but not too close!) to us - yesterday and today.  Spot the difference.

Would be nice to see those temps occuring in here that give you very interesting weather data.  Toronto going for 33C max today and was 31.7C yesterday and lovely warm night of 21.8C. I used to record lovely warm nights here before with 20C-21C minimums often reach every summer up to 2006.

Weekend greetings,

I see the western US heatwave has its own thread, with the possibility of 130f being recorded in Death Valley, perhaps tomorrow. Las Vegas may tie its all time high of 117f too. If it's going to happen this is the perfect time of year just before the monsoon starts to effect the weather in SW states, normally in July.

The heatwave will extend further north this weekend and temps reaching 38c/100f will creep north of the border, into suthern BC. The likes of Kamloops and Osoyoos would be good bets for 37c to 40c readings by Tuesday of next week.

Calgary too will turn dry and hot with temps up to 31c by early week, probably most welcome after the bad flooding of last weekend (thanks for the photos Peter).

Farther east it's rather cool and unsettled around the Grea Lakes and into the NE States. Highs in Chicago today only the mid-60s f with Toronto also below average at 23c/73f.

Cooler air will filter all the way down into the southern Plains states leaving the likes of Dallas and Oklahoma City with highs in the low 80s as we start July - very unusual for the time of year. You don't often see Seattle forecast to be hotter than either of those cities on July 1st!

It looks humid and wet for the east coast with plenty of showers and thunderstorms to come over the next few days. Local flooding may be an issue.

Meanwhile my Blue Jays are back to being disappointing after the glorious 11 game winning streak...never mind!

I see EC are forecasting a high of 35c for Calgary today - thats's very close to the all-time record high of 36.1c at the airport in July 1919. TWN forecasting 34c. I've seen temps go as high as 31c or 32c in Calgary but 34c or above must be rare - perhaps Peter will report in to clarify.

Some very serious thunderstorms hit Toronto yesterday and gave out 126mm in 1 go which I never seen it before.  Total for July is now 186mm and near to the highest monthly totals set in July 2008 at 193.4mm.  No month ever recorded 200mm and probably by the next few days as they forecast more thunderstorms today and tomorrow to reach 200mm.  That a vast difference to here so dry and not a single thunderstorm too.  My relatives told me they are having poor summer due to excessive rain/thunderstorms almost every day.  Surely there must be some drier warmer air but it seem very hard to get it nowadays as it always humid and thundery that keeping the temps rarely exceed 30C.

Well I certainly hope that there is some drier air about Ontario soon as we are heading out at the end of next week for three weeks there and in Quebec. Any thoughts as to what is to come later in the month [is the jet staying kinked]?

Will be going to see the Blue Jays v LA Dodgers in a couple of weeks so hoping for a home win or two.

Hello folks, back from Australia a week ago or so but been soo busy catching up with work, yes that word again! Weather has been ok here nothing special, until yesterday afternoon! By now, most folk will have seen (certainly if your on Facebook or Twitter) about the historic Thunderstorm Toronto took this time yesterday.

The Toronto star sums up what the situation was like late last night after the downpour - http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2013/07/08/storms_stall_ttc_go_as_roads_tracks_and_stations_flood.html. It was absolute chaos from Brampton thru Pearson and to the NW regions of the city, but downtown didn't escape. Serious flooding hit Lakeshore boulevard in the section that runs beneath the Gardiner expressway. As the star reports, at one stage ALL of Toronto Transit Comissions train service was off while the streetcar and bus service was significantly disrupted.

The sureal sight of people out in canoes in some downtown districts! 128mm of rain fell in 2hrs at Pearson, Toronto's highest ever total for a single day since records began.

Today, GO Transit services are getting back to normal. Services on the Lakeshore line were disrupted since last evening due to tracks flooding between Port Credit & Long Branch. A Toronto-Richmond Hill service last night got caught in rising flood waters off the Don river and passengers were eventually evacuated as water came into the trains carriages after 4hrs or so.

TTC have most of their service running again with the Yonge-University-Spadina line on full service. Only local roads main effected by sinkholes that the storm created are still shut at this hour.

Pretty amazing......amazing as well as here in the Hamilton area we got a passing shower - 1.8mm of rain and you wouldn't know anything different, the locality of Thunderstorms sometimes!

I've read on here from Jiries and on the Star itself that it's been a wet summer so far, must say can't really say it's been much different here in Hamilton, the stats might show differently, maybe there has been more showers and Thunderstorms compared to normal, but temp wise and humidity wise it feels July.

Pleased to see your coming over Norseman, weather set for temps between 27c-30c next five days and showers gradually clearing. At some point this month the weather often hits 35c (in a normal summer) which unlike last years heat is so far being a normal summer. As for the Jays, they are under 500 at 43-45, still inconsistant but have proved they have a good run in them so who knows.

Also pleased to see that the UK (even Scotland, hopefully you Graeme in Fife?) are having a heatwave. Hopefully it lasts, as i'm Scotland bound for 2wks starting this Sunday!

Thanks Ontario Snowman. I believe that there is lightning about again today. I have been in the Toronto area before in July when the temps reached above 35C. Even tried to play golf one day in it but had to give up at the turn and get a couple of cold beers in.
I am hoping not quite so hot this time as one of my daughters has produced a rather hectic itinery for us this visit. Me, I would like at least a couple of days relaxation too.
I am not too far away from Graeme so can say that I guess he has had some good days but also a bit of Haar and cloud too in the East Neuk. Tomorrow should be good as the breeze is expected to be Westerly.

It's been a pretty wet summer here as well - some sunny stretches, but broken up with more rainy days than I'm used to over here.  This week coming is pretty wet and cool as well - but forget that, I'm off to the UK for 3 weeks to sample summer there.  :)
