Some good news now as the convection line approaching east Devon has become electrified. Meanwhile the clump of storms in NW France is extending sferic activity into the English Channel, W of Le Havre

Passing either side of me Dave, although there is something interesting looking developing in North Brittany heading my way for later.

Just had a flash of lightning and a rumble of thunder here in Exeter. Full cloud, but darker clouds to the east.

Well this is good. Developing convection line all the way from Grantland to Devon. Several fresh storms brewing in there. Weymouth could be a good spot shortly

It looks like developing event right now in south Dorset. Some tropical sized raindrops falling but no thunder so far. Looks like my fishing trip will be put on hold for today. I was hoping it would all head further east of here.

That stream of precpitation moving up through Devon and Dorset is thundery rain, with only limited electrification at the moment.

Due south of the Brest Peninsula, however... that's a bit more like it, but it seems to be torn between heading due N and heading NE. There's a bit of a gap between that and the thundery rain, probably destined for my location

I think it's time for me to say that I can feel the confidence in my storm forecast for my area slowly ebbing away by the hour as it looks like it'll all be passing by to my west and then onto the Midlands (the new South East in terms of storm activity).
I think I may have to eat humble pie and do some grovelling tomorrow the way things are going. But that's the joys of dealing with what is a very complex and uncertain set up anyway.

Started to look really dark and menacing a short while ago but the dark clouds have slipped west of here like it did earlier in the week.

As soon as these areas of convection leave the zone of instability over the near continent they are losing their punch in terms of electrical activity, which is to be expected given the atmospheric profile. It's a bit like a dodgem being driven off the electrical overhead grid, it soon loses power without the necessary input.
