Heavy rain suddenly started here - for the first time in at least a month! 👍 No sign of any [thunder] though.

Also noticed how the storms seem to be moving E rather than N. That said, just had our first lightning and thunder in Portsmouth.

And here we go, just seen the first forked lightning!

It's quite slow and lumbering and only raining moderately but am seeing impressive cloud to cloud forked lightning every five minutes. Just waiting for it to get properly dark so that I can try and get some photos of it.

Just checking in to report 45 minutes of thunder, lighting and heavy rain mixed with hail here in Kendal.  So much rain that th eback lane is a torrent of water and the roads are all pretty difficult to drive.

It's a relief as at 5:30pm it was 27*C and horribly humid - so much so it had given me a migraine this afternoon.  Now the thunderstorm has happened, I'm feeling a lot better.

Almost continual thunder being heard now, steady rain at moment with big tropical drops

Still seems that most storms contained in the main band will push ENE/E and clip far SE but mostly head into the low countries. More of a case of well scattered rumbles more than a firework show for most.

Edit: In fact, mostly going E. There was a time that they frequently crossed the channel...

Nicky, Termo C would have liked to answer that question but his not about on here much these days he has his own webb site but I think he may have said yes with the nature of things and the way the jet is thats my understanding anyway.

Is this system likely to produce any supercell activity? It's been years since I've seen anything like that.

A few rumbles of distant thunder and light rain just started.  The sky looked stormy half an hour ago, now it just looks a bit grey.

Well, despite apparently being in the thick of it, the rumbles remain distant and the rain is steady but unspectacular - looks like a bit of a non event

Still plenty of rumbles and bursts of heavy rain here in Kendal, it's been going on for nearly two hours.  The temperature  dropped from 27*C at 5:30pm to 17*C at 7:30pm

Mmm, as storms go, this isn't really being that impressive. Yes, I'm seeing forked lighting - once every five minutes. Yes, it's raining but moderately and yes it's trying to come over all dark and threatening but it's been like that for the past two hours anyway.
Does look like the "core" is still out over the Strait Of Dover so the best is still yet to come? And I'll get the camera out when it does get properly dark for it.

EDIT: Actually, strike that (no pun intended), it is pepping up a bit.
