Well, that was a lively number, got 10.2 mm of rain in half an hour out of that one (I'm sure there should be much more than that, going to check my rain gauge for cobwebs or snails), complete with big flashes, loud tile-rattling thunder and of course, that close thunderbolt that could only have been a couple of hundreds of yards away (saw sparks come off as it hit a building).
It looks like there is another small cell coming our way, but otherwise I think that's our lot.
I was going to say that it was just like the one we had on July 21st but the difference with this one was the total lack of wind for it remained completely still and calm the whole time, even at the height of the storm with the torrential rain.

Our first wave has passed by, and the rain all but stopped. Radar shows another approaching, but nothing more than the odd rumble/flash at present. Most of the sferics seem to have been C-Cs so far.

Such a shame that I hadn't captured it on camera as by then the rain then came lashing it down but, the bolt was so bright it had left an "afterburn" image in my field of vision for several minutes afterwards (like looking at a camera flash). Managed to get a very short video clip, though.

One of the thunderbolts as the storm approached, this is a mobile image taken by a friend who lives around the corner from me. . . .

A reasonable show for some - a spectacular fail for others.
For here both areas split nicely as the IOW deflector worked at full strength, and we ended up with barely 3mm from the whole event.
Such are the vagries of the weather an dit's modelling!

A lively and very wet night for East Kent, with flooding in Hythe, and house strikes in Ramsgate and Herne Bay. Both strikes resulted in minor damage only, so we (FESS) had a quiet night in after our earlier call.

Impressive storm late evening here too west of Ashford with at least 7-8 lightning flashes per minute on average...probably the 2nd best lightning show of the last 2-3 years (the best being earlier this summer). Nice!

Evening Steve Big smile

Indeed, Ian, very muggy all day here too and remains so. Almost tropical feeling today in that its been raining with thick cloud, yet I've been driving around with the aircon on.

Not much action here. The odd flash of lightning. Still very dry. Got 2mm rain over the last 24 hours first rain since 15th September.

I'm straining so hard looking towards the south west and seeing those one-in-every-five-minutes distant flashes that I keep passing wind.

If there were any storms here on Thurdays night I must have slept though them but doubtful given the measly amount of rainfall .... just 3.8mm
