Using my source of information the 12z GFS has upgraded things a tad.

The previous highest progged of a sustained 47mph wind has now become a 49mph sustained southerly at 00z.

FWIW and as a comparison, the St Jude Storm on 28th October peaked at a SW 43mph sustained.

This is going to be bad.

Two short power cuts in the last hour - very unusual for here.
Gusts still around 55mph with a peak of 62mph about 45mins ago.

Just a normal breeze here in the East Midlands so far though it was gusty with the rain earlier on.

We are under a really heavy band of rain now and the gutter at the back can't cope and it looks like the Angel Falls!

Unfortunately it looks as though 2 people have died so far in the storm, according to the BBC.

As an aside, the chart for noon tomorrow:

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/brack0.gif

shows what must be one of the largest Atlantic lows there's been... it stretches from Canada to Svalbard, from the Azores to Poland. Truly a monster low!

There is of course time for all that to change, by the looks of it we are on the edge of the "crimp" that looks like battering the south east in the early hours.

TORRO tornado watch issued:

Also I'm looking at the radar with furrowed brow just now - the developing wave feature on teh CF is showing up nicely in the SW approaches - that 'head' of cloud looks very ominous to me.

Neighbour's 40ft tree is creaking and cracking like never before. I'd be surprised if it makes it through the night.

Earlier gusts were creating very strong eerie whistling sounds along the side of the house. The dog was spooked and is now seeking shelter under the dining table.

The rain has backed off a little bit, but my Vue's registed 13.2mm so far today.

Apart from a freak gust on a cliff top stuck out in the middle of the channel the wind from Jude was just a brief autumn gale. Most places only seeing gusts between 55-65mph.., some exposed costal areas saw 70-80mph.

I'm watching the big windows in my office flexing with each gust - the reflections of the office lights are showing up just how much the glass is bending! (This is in E London near Tower Hill)

Need to leave and get on my bike shortly...
