I'd rather have a decent high over the North Pole any day. All sorts of ways of getting prolonged cold for the UK become possible. Much more reliable than Scandi highs that have to be positioned with absolute precision to give us a shot of winter.

2 miles west of Taunton, 32 m asl, where "milder air moving in from the west" becomes SNOWMAGEDDON.
Well, two or three times a decade it does, anyway.
