Sorry Rob It was just a bit of fun.

Someone sent me the tweet to cheer us up after I tweeted to them we're off work because of the weather and they were working inside

So I thought I'd do the same here

I know it may not be true and it is the usual tabloid stuff, taken at face value by me and I thought others (I was wrong)

I mean who would have predicted this lot we are having now according to one paper we were going to get snowmeggedon

Maybe a bit of fun, but not if you are trying to get people to take climate science seriously.

O/T but I wouldn't be at all surprised if 2014 does turn out the warmest, or at least one of the warmest, years on record in Britain.  Not as though we've gotten off to a cold start!

Your criticism of the article maybe well founded and I applaud this, but not in the manner in which you deliver it

I might add I get no credit having informed you today that another crap piece of journo is out there circulating the

twittesphere as well as the newsagents

Dare I say anything on these weather threads without members like you saying "Says it all really..."?

Just to jog your memory this is how you replied to me

"What a stupid article.

You could have said "This is incorrect  or it's wrong

The writer totally misses the point that they are talking about El Niño making it the hottest year GLOBALLY and making it sound as if it's forecasters talking about our back yard. El Nino often leads to rubbish summers in the UK (see 1998).

Then I aplogised and and explained and that wasn't enough

Looked like some wintry showers moving in over Cumbria tomorrow, but not sure of the detail because on all of the BBC forecasts I've seen this evening there was a damn great big '5' symbol covering the far north of England!

We know it was windy but how many times have the reporters-in-wellies told us of 'Hurricane force winds' affecting an area.
That was a brief gust at Great Dunn Fell most likely, most of the places they are reporting from probably did not exceed 60mph.

Never thought I'd say this, but for once I cannot wait for the blazing hot sunshine - and then some of us'll be grumbling about the heat and humidity.  I, for one, will appreciate it more from now on.

So was 1990 an El Nino year? It doesn't come up on the lists of major ones. The biggest recently were 1982-83 (v good UK summer), 1997-98 (wet start but a decent and very dry August in the south) and 2009-2010 (again mixed but a warm June and July).

I see The Mirror is doing a good job of pointing out the storms in the Atlantic not heading our way, and missing the storm to the south which is.

John Hammond tweeting that Friday's storm at least and may be more intense than yesterday's then less unsettled next week as the jet buckles.
