I see Odiham has now recorded 68mph gusts, quite strong for inland Hampshire...

Pic from Network Rail of the railway line washed away at Stonegate (Sussex) by the recent landslip.

Depends on whether or not you're camped out, alone, in a remote Highland glen, at the time ........ Sometimes, I hate strong winds!

About 3.30pm Rob - Quite spectacular
Grounds lost it's cohesion
Fridays rain event looking prolonged and heavy. After that I think we may be out of the woods as far as rainfall but the damage is already done

Pretty gusty here earlier, but not as bad as I was fearing - it's actually been quite a nice afternoon.
My personal view is we are nearing the end game with this spell - down here at any rate. A couple more deluges then drier and more normal winter conditions. It won't help the poor sods that are flooded, have lost their roofs or are set to have weeks on end of groundwater problems to suffer from though.
We had that earlier, very stormy
nothing toonotworthy here gusty earlier this pm in particular expected a squally end to the rain but not happened in fact only 5mm total from this less than yesterdays and clearance now here
Looks like travel chaos for NW England at rush hour. Heard M6 Thelwall Viaduct has shut.

BBC reporting that 42,000 homes in Wales are without power, and 18,000 in England. With winds still so strong, i wouldn't be surprised to see 100k homes in the dark tonight! Chaos.
Twitter again
Tomorrow's cabinet meeting to be scrapped and replaced by first meeting of new FRC = "Floods Recovery Committee" chaired by the PM #floods
I'd call it FROG = Floods Recovery Of Greatbritain (One word)
It took me 52 minutes to drive the 12 miles home today from work - normally only takes 20 minutes at most. The Sheppey Crossing was closed, there was minor flooding on the only road to Leysdown (amazing how people don't drive along the centre lines) - and a couple of small trees down. And a small stream seems to have appeared a quarter of a mile away, something that I've never seen there before.
Extremely violent wind gusts here, quite scary.
After a brief lull the wind has just gusted to 61mph on my exposed PWS, worse to come later I would imagine. Going to get the candles ready just in case - you never know.
I notice Aberdaron in N Wales has got up to 105mph
