My own Bro has driven from Carlise to Ft William today, with no real hassle (had to txt him a few details as the A82 was shut for a short time also).

You are right, Drumochter is wild right enough, and the A9 is busy which is a curse (accidents, hard to clear, a few idiots) and blessing (you'll not be stuck alone) in this kind of weather.

It's all academic however as milder air is bringing a thaw below 400 meters.

Started pelting with rain about 4pm here. After half an hour, with some sleet, there were two long rumbles of thunder and suddenly it had turned to heavy snow. Been snowing since with about 10cms cover. Astonishing considering
elevation and previous conditions.

Rain turned to wet snow for a while this morning leaving a covering above 800feet, the Lake District should look stunning in tomorrow's sunshine.

Has a potential snowfall on Friday slipped under the radar?

The latest fax shows a small depression running along the south coast on Friday with light winds and sub 528dam air just to the north.

That's a classic evaporation snowfall scenario with areas from Cardiff to London along the M4 corridor most at risk with the low,s current path. No mention on the Beeb but the potential is there.

It would be typical if Brian G got the only low level snowfall of the winter!
