Sustained winds around 60-65mph rain/ sea spraywas horizontal as can be seen looking at lampposts.
I was sheltered from wind by a large building but you can still here howling.

Longer gaps between the gusts now: judging from the radar, the squally incursions are thinning out too. 18z GFS shows winds abating slowly from about midnight onwards in CS England.

Can't really add any more to this, apart from me pleading for it to stop. 😢

I guess it's better that it's happening during the night while most of us are indoors.

Stay safe.

It is no longer raining, hasn't been for an hour or so, but I just drove back from Truro and the skies have been pretty clear, it's almost a full moon, but what is impressive is the speed the high clouds are moving. Still very windy with very strong gusts, but nothing like it was earlier.

Reports of a fair number of trees down, earlier today.

Incidently my partner is on a ski ing trip - waiting to board the ferry at Dover. I'm amazed they are still sailing, given the sea states.

Police say 30 people are trapped in a seafront cafe at Milford-on-Sea, Hampshire. Rocks thrown up from the beach have shattered windows and flooded the ground floor. BBC South's David Fenton said he saw Army trucks going in to evacuate them. Coastguard and ambulance were also there. Eyewitnesses say the situation is very dangerous with flying rocks a hazard. An evacuation centre has been set up at nearby Lymington.

Mean speed has dropped out there too, now, less of a roar. Amazingly, power still on too here (it went on Wednesday and last Saturday, in lesser winds)

The cruise ship operator, Cruise and Maritime Voyages (CMV), said in a statement: "CMV regrets to advise that earlier today their cruise ship MS Marco Polo, en route to her home port of Tilbury from the Azores, was hit by a freak wave during adverse sea conditions in the south-western approaches of the English Channel.

"One elderly passenger has died and a further passenger has been airlifted for further shore-side medical assistance.
