In the light of this much welcomed warm and sunny weather, lets play the annual "Headlines Bingo" game where you tick off any or all of the stuff that will appear in the national newpapers tomorrow, even though it is earlier than usual this year.

That includes phrases such as "Scorchio", "Warmer than Ibiza/the Med/Corfu" and the overuse of the word "Mercury".

Along with all that, there'll be a photo of a scantly clad Emma aged 20 splashing about at Bournemouth Beach, the rear view of an elderly couple sitting on deckchairs at Eastbourne, a student laying on grass reading a book at Hyde Park, a little girl wearing a bonnet-type hat slurping on ice cream and snarling traffic jams on the A23 to Brighton (and the place names are all in BOLD CAPITALS).

A mention that not everywhere had this warm spell where parts of the Hghlands had blizzards.

All that will be accompanied with a cartoon sun wearing sunglasses and smiling away and temperatures are all in fahrenheit because it sounds bigger.

If all of those does appear on the papers then it will be a full house.

UK Outlook for Friday 14 Mar 2014 to Sunday 23 Mar 2014:

Remaining settled and mostly dry on Friday with variable amounts of cloud and sunny spells, with the best of these in the south. However thicker cloud will affect some northwestern parts, gradually moving south during the day, and bringing some light outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Temperatures will be near normal or just above, although colder overnight, perhaps with frost or fog under any clearer skies. Into the weekend it will turn unsettled across the north, with wet and windy periods and hill snow, but staying dry, but cloudier in the south. These unsettled conditions will continue next week in the north, interspersed by colder interludes with wintry showers. Whilst generally staying drier and brighter in the south, some colder and more unsettled weather is also possible at times.

UK Outlook for Monday 24 Mar 2014 to Monday 7 Apr 2014:

The current trend is for fairly typical conditions for the end of March and April, with a changeable mixture of showery outbreaks of rain and drier, sunnier intervals. Although it will also be feeling cold at times. As such, some spells of wet and windy weather should be expected, these most frequent in the north, with the risk of hill snow. However there will also be drier and brighter interludes, with the best of these to the south and east. Temperatures are likely to be near normal or below, especially in the north, and any clearer nights will be rather cold with the risk of frost.

Certainly a chilly outlook

What I can't make out (and never can), is how they constantly get away with the crap they publish with nobody in higher authority questioning them.

It just seems that they publish whatever crap they want, and the Met Office then get the stick, no matter how much Met Office distance themselves from over-hyped, sensationalist nonsense.

The trouble is, one day, they will be right, and then they (not the Met Office) will get all the credit.

The paper should not even be in existence, it's taken over the mantle from the Daily Sport from years ago as basically nothing more than a comic with silly little titbits of rubbish.

Some would argue that you can make general seasonal predictions nowadays but I think even that is highly questionable and certainly when picking out an extreme like that headline would be down to pure luck if it were correct

Basically, an El Nino is expected this summer.   El Ninos usually result in warmer than average years globally.  Ergo it means we'll have our hottest summer on record .......

Interesting piece here - I have shouted several times at the radio recently when I've heard the 'debates' between fanatics and scientists - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-26845103

This time was the opposite argument saying that because an overwhelming percentage of scientific opinion supports AGW, the pro arguments should be given a lot more air time compared to the anti

He likened this to allowing the Monster Raving Loony Party getting the same amount of electoral air-time as the Conservative Party

He was especially critical of the Today Programme a few weeks ago when Nigel Lawson got a long slot to propound his sceptical views against Sir Brian Hoskins
