as usual nothing here today bit cloudy this morning but a lovely afternoon with the sea breeze clearing the cloud from the coastal strip

possibly a better chance tomorrow but i reckon the Downs will create the usual convergence zone with the sea breeze keeping the convection just inland but showers could reach us later in afternoon

Euro-4 develops storms towards the Midlands and then gradually slides them south, with an east-west progression.

A real risk of storms chaining across a notable swathe of The South, with Euro-4 predicting locallised totals of 60-80mm across some southernmost counties... hopefully overdoing it!

For context, the excellent storm I experienced a fortnight ago 'only' dropped 30mm. It just goes to show what is possible when you have the potential for multiple storms to hit the same location in one day - or in this case, half-day

Looking more closely, the 00z Sunday accumulated precipitation chart actually had a 100mm figure in the mix, something I've never seen before!

3 hours further on, and the 100 is replaced by 115 (look just SW of London)

A small shower that has pretty much regenerated right over me has resulted in continuous heavy rain for the last two hours.

A sign of things to come for some southern areas today - potential back-building trains along a WSW to ENE orientated CVZ could deliver significant totals.

Short sweet but very intense downpour has just passed 😊

Very convective skies with plenty of towers going up with pileus clouds.

I had this very realistic dream last night, the met had stuck a twister symbol on the weather map. Then I was watching the news and a tornado ripped through the studio causing lots of destruction - then cameras cut out and I woke.

The radar is finally back... and apparently one of the most electrically active cells so far today is heading right for me... but with the backbuilding, progress is slow, and it might lose its mojo before making it here. It does appear that the northern side of Basingstoke just recieved a tight cluster of CG strikes in a short space of time though!

A fairly notable break in the clouds has opened up SW of Salisbury, seperating the storms currently advancing across the likes of Reading from those across Devon.

That could allow for some reasonable solar heating to come into play, making for an energetic afternoon across the southern counties, much as Euro-4 was showing yesterday (it backed down this morning for the far south, but that appears to be the wrogn move based on current developments).
