Any news from those in South Kent/East Sussex? Currently a potent looking line of storms from Ashford down to Eastbourne.

Bit of a light display, the rain radar great to see too as it shows the rain/thunder simply bubbling up over the mouth of the Thames Estuary and growing !

Radio Sussex reporting torrential storm stuck over Brighton and Hove, many roads flooded, some feet deep. Rail services disrupted when lightning struck a transformer.

Interesting radar echoes; absolutely nothing at 4 am, small blob off Beachy Head at 5am, full blown storm over Brighton 6am (and to a lesser extent up the A23 towards London). Still quite local and forecast to decay in situ - Hastings is dry, Chichester is dry but with some cloud formatios that look rather like outflow from the bottom of a large convection cell.

EDIT; a look at the radar echoes and forecasts suggest that most of central Brighton will have had some 4 hours of rainfall rates in excess (in some cases well in excess) of 25mm/hr for 4 hours by the time it dies down at 11am or so.

We've had thunder and lightning and spells of torrential rain since 6am around the Heathrow airport area. This has easily been the most thundery summer since I moved here 6 years ago.

Radar accumulation data suggesting some coastal parts of Brighton have had 4-6 inches of rain in the past few hours. Unreal!
