Been mostly dry here all day - until now. There was just a big flash of lightning, a deep rumble of thunder, and then seconds later the heavens opened; absolutely lashing down!

Best year for convection since I've lived here. Sorry, Duane, you've lost your touch

Huge rainfall in NW kent this evening. Roads flooded, tropical style rain, huge raindrops. It's like turning a tap on and off. Stops suddenly, then starts up again.  Vivid bright white lightening as well. This part of Kent has had numerous thunderstorms over the last 6-8 weeks. Fantastic summer so far.

Euro 4 suggesting widespread showers again later on, which seems an upgrade on earlier run. Nothing too bad on the radar yet to suggest anything as bad as last night. I got absolutely soaked at about 8.30pm, foolishly not checking the radar before going out and thinking it was all over! Garage got flooded as well and triggered the burglar alarm.

I dont think we will see a repeat today, but lets wait and see!

Caught the edge of a thunderstorm in Reading, just as I was making dinner. Had the pleasure of seeing an arc of lightning span much of the visible sky to my east, followed by a decent rumble that almost seemed to echo back and forth, as the volume and pitch was highly variable.

Winds became very gusty, and I was amused to see a pair of umbrellas, miraculously entangled by their hooks, doing a good job of emulating a sort of large madly flapping bird.

I'm quite enjoying this bout of fresh, mobile weather, though I can't say I'd be saying that if it was still the same a week from now.

Another day, another storm... hadn't even really looked at the forecast for today, was sat here and suddenly a big rumble of thunder came out of nowhere. Sun is still shining but who knows what might happen next!
