That was an impressive prolonged torrential downpour with evil sky's but no thunder which was surprising!
A lot of surface water around to.
An impressive funnel cloud was observed around Loughborough on Thurs. 14th; it then moved eastwards over Burton On The Wolds. Duane - have a look at the Loughborough Echo! http://www.loughboroughecho.net/news/local-news/funnel-cloud-hits-loughborough-7618984

Small funnel cloud observed from Westminster looking north-east.
Just seen the occasional distant flashes over the French coast.
Some heavy afternoon showers here, some quite prolonged.
A few cracks and rumbles around Thanet just now. Nothing spectacular.
Dark here with heavy showers.
The slow moving convergence lines today gave a right soaking here, turning roads to rivers as rain rates largely in the range of 16-48 mm/hr spanned two periods of around 45 minutes.
Typically, I was heading for a bus during the first of those and from a bus during the second
A funnel cloud was observed at Dymchurch today: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=630168963748024&set=vb.449916508439938&type=2&theater
Somebody saying on Twitter they thought they saw lightining last night in East Northants (strong enough to temporarily cut the power)
Anybody know if there was lightning around last night?

Having said that, there did appear to be scattered quite heavy showers last night, http://www.weathercast.co.uk/radar/archive-for-united-kingdom.html, and so an occasional flashes of lightning couldn't have been ruled out, undetected by the lightning map.
Or it could be possible transformer/sub-station failure. That can produce brilliant flashes of light (has been known to be as bright as lighning).
Thanks.
I shall report back your findings.
