I do miss the summer heat and summer storms down there Caz but the scenery and varied weather keeps me occupied up here.

Down to 1.7c with moderate sleet. Another degree drop and we should be turning white. Snow line is likely to be below 300 metres now.

Strange thing happened here...The snow streamer from the WNW has eased and intermittent rain now from the WSW? Is the precipitation coming up over Dumfries and Galloway connected to the frontal zone I wonder?

I am east of Martin in ST Helens and it has been sleeting for the past half hour, I have just checked lampost and it is now turning more to snow. This is Burnley so who knows what will emerge during the night. I'll take this as a starter for winter.

Raining here - Temp is 2.8C and the dew is 2.1C so nothing special will happen with those values lol They are slowly dropping though.

Anyway, the rock is now on the wheelie bin (it's just been emptied this morning so it's light and empty) and am going to hit the sack and hopefully miss most of it by sleeping through it (my being deaf mean I'm totally impervious to sound once my aids are off, but the same cannot be said for my elderly mother). I'm not expecting the wind to kick in until after midnight so I'm not going to lose sleep by watching radars and hoping for that last minute downgrade as it won't make an iota of difference to the weather.

it can be part of the radar called a Magnetron which I worked on for many years at Marconis for marine and defence radar in Chelmsford

weather radars in the UK generally use magnetron transmitters, for which the transmitted frequency is prone to drift. These frequency

drifts are primarily caused by changes in the ambient temperature,

I don't know what it is. It is only snowing where the precipitation is heavy.

1.6c a heavy batch is heading near me so I will report back. Also watching the thick clumps of showers in the atlantic. Bbc weather mention these

EURO4 is awful for any snow cover south of the Yorkshire Dales. However GFS does give a bit of hope.
