Still no snow  here near Yeovil, was hoping maybe tomorrow but looks slim now and looks slim next week from what ive been reading, but being optimistic things could possibly change maybe, hopefully. Might have to wait til feb if we get some colder stuff. Interesting reading though if not frustrating, will keep on lamp post watching.

You and me both. Sunny, frosty but snowless here. Shouldn't really complain after boxing day but I will anyway, seen as this thread exists!

I'm hoping our share of snow isn't being saved for midweek because we're driving down to Gatwick at about 2 am Wednesday morning and flying at 9 am, so I do not want sod's law to prevail.

On train this morning up to London...going through Redhill, I might possible have witnessed a tiny bit of sleet but impossible to verify...having said that, the scenery up th Arun Valley was stunning in the frost and frozen water...the less said about Southern Trains on our journey back, the better... 1 hour late and a grope of drunken blokes swearing behind us....delightful😁

This winter continues to sink further and further into the abyss. Yesterday was one of the few pleasant feeling days with a much lighter breeze but even that wouldn't drop out after sunset and the temperature just stuck at 0-1C all evening, briefly dipping to another stunning low of -0.2C at 10pm So despite all the clear skies this month remains on course to record less frost than last January's soggy horror show.

Today I wake up to find that the wind has switched to northerly but instead of bringing snow there has been rain and the temperature is 2.9C

Yet again it begs the question "What the hell is happening to our weather?"when even a northerly can't deliver snow in mid-January.

This decade has already brought us the worst summer, the worst pair of consecutive summers and the worst winter on record. Every day of this write-off winter that passes brings us closer to the worst pair of consecutive winters as well.

Snow showers were forecast for later but I won't hold my breath given the current temperature and yesterday being 2C warmer than forecast

We actually had a heavy snow shower last night, about 11.30pm, that settled. It`s nearly all gone this morning though.

Just to do a bit more whinging/moaning we never had any snow during the 1962-63 winter, thanks to the bloody Pennine snow/rain shadow.

It was so snowless that I went to work on my motorbike every day (although I did fall off twice on icy roads)

It's only day 2 of the alleged cold spell but I have to say it's nothing out of the ordinary with a wintry mix of rain, sleet, hail and snow for these parts with the temps yesterday reaching 5.6c which is near the average around here. Lat night was just as pathetic as the previous two with some light sleet/snow which partially melted only to freeze in the early hours leaving a nice frozen slush puppy appearance on my drive.

As for Tuesday/Wednesdays events well they've been downgraded to  some light rain/sleet, inspiring stuff and this will be another crap cold spell post December  2010 to add to the list.

At least it would be a fantastic day for skiing up in the Caingorms with the fresh covering powdery snow over night and sub zero dry conditions today then a low of -14c tonight keeping the snow!?

Looks like an ideal Sunday for skiing/snowboarding. - Good visibility too I would guess?

The wait for lying snow goes on with overnight snow briefly followed by rain. It was supposed to turn colder later allowing snow showers but now that seems to be in doubt and probably best to expect rain

So, mine eyes now turn to the north and that front moving down. Looking at the M6 traffic cams, it seems to have put a slight white covering down, even to low levels in north Lancs/south Cumbria.

Radar shows it being around Blackpool now and it doesn't appear to be fragmenting too much - but no doubt in the 30 or so crow-flying miles between current location and MBY, it will dissipate remarkably, as well as sucking in some mild air from somewhere

Crazy that Aberdeen hasn't had a covering of snow when Glasgow has been plastered with snow. - At least you will have some dry, cold and crisp nights to look forward to. 🙂 - Must be a great day's skiing up in Cairngorms today after a fresh fall of snow last night.

A big let down here in SW England - not a flake or snow and the showers we had during the night were minimal and even in the showers the temperature rose by a degree. - It just made the roads damp. Most of the wintry showers (if they were of snow) were to the north of Devon and SOmerset etc. Very disappointing indeed. Tuesday looks like a massive downgrade - we were initially forecasted a high of 5c now the BBC weather has forecasted a high of 8c by Tuesday.

This supposed cold spell just keeps delivering failure after failure for here. It's the worst 'cold spell' since the 2011/12 winter. I guess it's partly the result of the awful and mild last winter and memories of 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2012/13 winters bringing plenty of snow, still being fresh in one's mind

Is the station you're referring to (saying 8C) in a proper Stevenson screen and in a grassy area, away from buildings, fences, trees etc? I'd imagine not, in which case it's no surprise that on a sunny afternoon it'll read higher.

You see it around here too. Those Netatmo stations are the worst for it, but as they're a fashion accessory as much as a weather station that's no surprise! And there aren't many people with the space and money to have a proper screen (they cost upwards of £600, for those wondering).

My own station is in a cheapo wooden screen (cheap in this case being a £40 kit - the cheapest I could find) but it over-reads when it has the sun beating on it. At this time of year my station is in the shade for much of the afternoon and it's currently giving similar values as nearby official stations.

Notwithstanding all that, Darren, it has (away from elevated areas) been a disappointingly underwhelming 'cold' spell.
