It looked promising around sunset but it seems to have a gone little pear shaped since.

I'll be surprised if I wake up to see lying snow or even hail. The stuff that fell from the early evening showers stuck around for awhile but temperatures have edged up a little bit and now that has melted.

Maybe the the strength of the wind is the issue here.

For parts of the snow starved south it seems that the 2 year wait is nearly over.

The snow potential tonight arrives with an interesting little feature in the cold flow. The Highways Agency forecast provider talks of 1-2cm widely to sea level.

Strange drive this morning. Just slush on the windscreen in Chorlton, snow covering the M60 and A34 in Cheadle and just slushy grey snow here...shows that shower intensity must be key at the moment here.

Very heavy snow in the UK last night, looks like we have about 4-5" but lots of drifting this time too - will take some pics once it get lighter.

Was just thinking of the total " of snow this winter, we are now at 20" of snow for the whole 14/15 UK winter.

Enjoy yet another snow day!!!

only 2 or 3 inches here at 1050 feet, was expecting 6inches or more which is what we had from the previous west based event a couple of weeks ago.  Temp at 0.8C so not as cold as I expected either.  Most interesting part of event so far is repeated thundersnow - just had lightning & thunder  a couple of mins ago and several flashes close by yesterday evening. Many of the showers are of hail rather than snow making for a very "un-fluffy" cover!

The snow showers overnight have left a 8cms covering, more in places where it drifted.

Woke the wife up at 1am to show her the blizzard outside and even she was impressed!

At last a north westerly has delivered for north Cumbria, something that should be guaranteed really but no complaints from me this morning, OK maybe one, my mate near Carlisle has even more! Lol

Had about 2cm at lower levels here in Teesside and then the temp dropped overnight to freeze most of it, back up to 2c now though so roads are all clear.

Great to see the areas expected to get some snow coming good.
Otherwise for a huge area of the 'UK', it's sleety showers and here at the moment we have a light rain shower in progress.

Absolutely bugger all during the night but it's started to snow in the last 10 minutes leaving a wet and white covering. Temps not that impressive either at 2.0c but the DP are -1.4c.

Further snow showers overnight but not the 15cm forecast, it was quite clear last night the showers were running more SE'wards to the south of here yet still they insisted on a warning for 15cm - hopeless.

Well it didn't take long for it to go tits up, snow's turned to sleet and temps have climbed to 2.2c and DP at 0.9c. Like I said yesterday it's a carbon copy of last weeks debacle.

The Severn Valley is doing an excellent job at killing all the showers before they get here.  Though if we did see anything it would only be rain ....

Very similar to the previous North Atlantic snow showers spell - ground is below freezing (just) but wind is keeping air just above.
Only the more intense showers have made it over but there is maybe an inch on the ground.

During the day yesterday was quite sunny, just a few short snow showers that didn't lie. That all changed as night fell. By 6:30 it was snowing heavily and by 10 we had about 3cm. Another 2cm overnight has given us a good covering.

It's looking like today (and the next few days) will be mainly dry for us and with cold temps I expect the snow to lie till at least the weekend.

Most of the main roads are open though there is a lot of slush still about

The gritters have had something of a long and busy night:
