Very heavy snow now here. Radar looks amazing with a streamer developing across the Irish Sea all the way to Manchester

Snowing lightly again after dropping 2/3 inches overnight which lead to my daughters school being closed. I remember those days when you used to wake up to snow and hope that the local radio station would list your school as being shut for the day! The call came in at 7.30am but she was not pleased! Trying to convince her that a day of building snowmen and sledging is awesome proved harder work than I imagined! The headteacher lives in Renwick which is a village at the base of the fells and no main roads anywhere near so not surprised she's not going anywhere.
Getting out of the village wasn't easy and even the A66 was down to one lane coming into Penrith. The fast lane of the M6 is non-existent and Good Morning Britain had a reporter live in a field somewhere between Penrith and Appleby so that made my day!!
Fantastic couple of weather days - best snow since Dec 2010 as Andy has mentioned earlier in the thread.

Meanwhile the center of Edinburgh is almost snow free just a light dusting closer to a thick frost than snow. Funny the difference only 2 miles and 100m of altitiude can make.

Otherwise it's a lovely sunny day.

The heaviest snow I've ever seen here now. Whiteout conditions. All traffic ground to a halt. Rapid accumulations on all surfaces including gritted roads. Most schools are closed.

Far from being a mild winter this is turning into a classic.

Drove from Glossop to Manchester this morning, about 7 cm when I started off, snow cover diminished to nothing in the out Manc suburbs. The current heavy showers started as I reached central Manchester. Light covering now around the University

We just had a slushy covering on car roofs overnight, recent showers have melted what was there, temp up to 1.5c now, just a typical UK event.

Full cover of snow here after an hour of mod and heavy snow. Radar looks good for more.

Snowing heavily again now and just had a rumble of thunder. Roads are atrocious. About 5 inches level covering, and very sticky snow too - the trees look amazing!

A streamer has set up here but I think it'll clear southwards as the morning goes on, so hopefully we can tap into another line of showers this afternoon.

heavy flurry of Graupel/Hai;/Fine snow in Liverpool Bands falling through the sky... whipping across the streets and making everything very misty in the poor visibility. Reckon this will be heavy snow by the time it reaches cheshire.

Radar looks promising for a streamer.

edit: also, Wirral has had pretty much nothing apart from light rain and occasional sleet and hail.  Very damp underfoot.   Missed all the overnight action.

Snow shower in Stoke and very slightest of covering in places. Understand it's still snowing back up near Stockport

Well the sun is threatening to come out here after some patchy drizzle, despite a rather angry looking radar. Needs to be a helluva lot colder to bring snow to these tropical climes! Interesting to see the temp differences this morning across the NW, 3-5C on the coast, 2-3C a bit inland and 0-1C a fair way inland.

The pattern of showers has barely changed at all since yesterday, wind still blowing W'ly and pushing showers ESE. Hoping this changes but either way it'll be rain or sleet on the coast!

Dark clouds building but with temps now at 3.0c and DP just above freezing I expect sleet/rain to be falling at first and if we're lucky that will lower both temps for some of the white stuff.

Lol, at this rate we'll be hitting 6c by lunchtime as the temp is a balmy 3.3c, this some 30 miles inland from the coast.
