We actually have more snow here than at a relatives much higher up in Saddleworth, looks like elevation is not the be all and end all. Being the furthest south in the borough is the sweet spot today with this streamer. What a day! really coming down thick and fast.

I reckon Irlam/Trafford/Stretford will all be getting heavy snow. My missus tells me it's still hammering it down in 'Tellins, now 'an inch or two' deep.

In the city centre, it's just steady light snow (small flakes) with occasional brief bouts of heavy/big flakes snow.

Yet another big dull dud.  The wind direction failing to shift NW the culprit this time.  Even the few showers that have made it in to the Mildands have missed here, apart from a 15 min 'wintry shower' this morning.  Now up to 3ºc and DP 1ºc so it's already game over even if the snow currently piling up just to our north does decide to head south this afternoon.  The only outside chance I s'pose if it's persistent and heavy it could drag colder air to give a period of wet snow.  

Spoke too soon. Moderate/heavy snow interspersed with lighter snow as what appears to be a trough in the flow sinks south. Doubt it'll last too long but it's lovely to see the snow swirling around and there is the lightest of dustings... Better than nowt!

Dew was above freezing here and it snowed anyway. I think it's all down to the strength of the PPN.

Not sure if that's it? The streamer is sinking south.

Looks like the end for snow from this current band of PPN is nigh, as it sinks south.

The potentially good news is that the band currently over the North Channel/Dumfries & Galloway/Cumbria is also sinking slowly southwards and, if it behaves, will be hitting us mid-late afternoon.

Would be nice to see a bit especially as I have a 2 1/2 year old who has not experienced snow since she was about 6 months old. Will keep fingers crossed!!!

I could have worded my previous a little better.  I didn't make clear that I'm not sure we'll see the intensity or longevity here as it begins to drift south.  Falling snow could easily happen but the underlying grumbling tone () of my post was that we may not see anything (of significance) settling.  I'm not even convinced we'll get hit by much.  Experience tells me that there's a good chance that what has sat roughly Manchester to Lincoln will drift south, yes, but also east and largely miss the West Midlands.  Likewise, I suspect that what's over Wales roughly Bangor to southern parts of Snowdonia will drift south of here roughly towards Worcester.

We're losing the sunshine now and there's a few spots of rain in the air.

I'm staying here rather than communicate with the mugs on NW...they never learn or listen  The Regional threads in that place are a complete joke. 

The last couple of frames on the MetO radar illustrate perfectly what I tried to describe.  Note the big 'hole' in the precipitation to our NW and note how the moderate shower that looked poised at 11:15 to hit Wolverhampton head on just died on its ar$£ 15 mins later.  

I don't have the expertise to know for sure but I often wonder if there's some kind of heat island effect that affects the West Midlands, which is predominantly large towns and cities.  Wolverhampton sits right at the western side of the West Midlands on the edge of the Staffordshire and Shropshire countryside.  It's often the case that you can just a few miles north or west to find quite significant snow with little or nothing from Wolverhampton out to the south and east towards Coventry, which sits at the far eastern edge of the West Midlands on the border with the Warwickshire countryside.

As far as I'm concerned, they mean the same thing: accumulating on the ground.

Which term you use depends (in my experience) on where you grew up. I've always known snow accumulating on the ground as 'sticking'.

As in "Look! The snow's beginning to stick in my back yard!"
