It is a polar low, and according to him it's heading for the Bristol area.

Hail shower just gave a light dusting on the snow melt.

Back home now - must be three inches of snow at least. Very wet in places.

Just seen a forecast on News 24 indicating the polar low or whatever it is might bring snow here again later, as well as Wales and the West Midlands.

And I think, given the uncertainty as to whether it is a true polar low, it should be called a quasi-sub-polar-subsidary low - and if we all call it that, see if Madden picks up on it!

BBC weather are making more of this polar low than the E4 chart is making of it. Expecting a couple of cm which makes up for getting just a coouple of shower/squals today with no covering.

My son who live in east manchester had abut 5" and was sent home from school.

interesting day.

Light snow covering on the grass here near Melton Mowbray, certainly nothing noteworthy thank goodness.

Had a period of moderate rain/snow which didn't settle. However, the raised ground surrounding us is white.....interesting to see if we get any more tonight.....

Further sleet and snow showers this evening, although everything has gone a bit mushy now.

Looks like we could be in the firing line for this Polar Low too, temps and dewpoints look alright, just!

What a fantastic day, even if this polar low misses us, or delivers rain.

I think the closest I'll get to seeing a polar low, is if I visit Howlett's Zoo Park and look for a moody white bear suffering from depression!...

Here, just east of Belfast, we;ve just had about half-an-hour of moderate snow, so all is white again after substantial daytime melting.

Met Eireann - the Republic of Ireland's Met Service - has a very interesting 3 hour synopsis for NW areas of the UK.
