Been out with the children to local shop during heavy snow shower. Nothing beats it. Covering amounted to about a cm. Rapid melt now.

Snow has stopped here... Temps edged above freezing at 0.1c and slow thaw underway on paths etc. although there's only a cm or so covering, I still managed to build a snowman (more of a snowbaby at around 18in) with my 3 yo daughter.

There's a lot of rain falling in this 'cold' spell...

Almost all our thin, icy covering has now been washed away.

Had another inch or so overnight here, adding to the general cover of the last few days, so depth on grass now around 6".

Seems as though the feature that crossed us last night had some warmer air behind it - temperature lifted from just under freezing late yesterday evening to about 2C now - snow cover has become damp with a very slow thaw. (The valley below is is now green).

A stiff NNW wind, which is forecast to increase further through the day, and I think it will turn colder again as day does on.

Will be interesting to see what the next feature brings tonight when the  low to the East "squeezes" down the East Coast. Any thoughts on this?

You're being a tad picky Michael, IMO, and I know you do get your back up each winter about people not fully subscribing to any chilly snaps

The last few days the forecasts on TV have been about how bitter it is outside, whilst temperatures in the south haven't reflected that at all. Admittedly they also said the actual air temperatures wouldn't be particularly cold, but unless you're stood on a hill, it doesn't feel it on the whole either. Many places have had temps just above mid single digits, and the latest forecasts are for them to drop a degree or so in the next couple of days. Hardly a marked change. It may well be different where you are, but he's talking about his area.

A few have had snowfall in air temps and dp higher than we had here the other day that brought rain. There's obviously another factor, but I'm not sure what that is.
