The core of that front has gone through now... and the temperature's risen to 2.6C / dew 2.2C. That's more what I'd expect from a warm front as opposed to the occluded front that it is...

Stormwatcher Blimey I Lived in Peacehaven 1970-1984 Now thats spooky.
Roderick avenue and earlier Dorothy avenue.
We had a classic White Christmas December 25th 1970. White out conditions in a blizzard that raged all day. Very deep snow and large drifts. That was 1 week after we moved from Woodingdean. Now that is a snow Trap.

Anyway turned dull dreary and damp here now.

I dont know what today's temps are as I'm at work, but it was 7.3c in Evesham yesterday (7.4c at Pershore) and warmer still over in Hereford.

Which is above average.

Little surprise we get rain or sleet really.

Here yesterday after the overnight snow thawed, (I reached 6.2C at about 14:30 when the wind dropped in sunshine) for about 1 minute. However 5 mins later a hail storm moved in from the North and the temperature dropped to 2.9C within 2 mins. It then remained low all afternoon and evening and was at -0.8C with heavy frost by 21:00 (still windy). By just after midnight the snow moved in again.

So I think it was abit misleading to say the weather temperatures are above average, when it was reached for about 10 minutes during the day.

The reason I am doing this is I can see the same thing happening today.

We reached the dizzy heights of 6.0C during a quick sunny period about 13:00.The rest of the day it has been between  0.8C at 07:00 up to about 4.6C, middle of the day, with a very strong wind, making it very cold. It is now at 3.5C with a dp of -2.3, so to give the impression that it is mild in the West Mids is not correct.

Sleet here, varying from a 5% snow / 95% rain ratio to 75% snow / 25% rain ratio as a heavier burst went through.

The temperature's fallen from 2.8C / dew 1.2C to 1.8C / dew 0.8C since the sleet started.

Had a dusting of snow from 30 mins or so of lightish snow this morning - bit more during the afternoon when the heavier precip moved over and it briefly turned to wet snow.

Tis nice to see and a few more chances for falling snow/temporary covering over the next few days.

Not exactly snow-related but cold-related nonetheless - was driving up the A34 to Oxford yesterday, and about halfway along, went over a hill, saw some looming ominous looking black clouds. As I drove under them the weather went from still and dry to very heavy rain and a little bit of hail. Something I haven't seen before though - I was keeping an eye on my car thermometer and saw that the outside temperature went from 7c down to 1.5 c in the space of roughly a minute. I've never seen a temp drop so far and rapid before, anyone want to shed some scientific light on this happening?

Just arrived back in S Cambridgeshire after a journey from SE Gloucestershire, driving across country through parts of Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. I saw only slight remnants of lying snow in shady roadside spots, the fields being entirely clear for the whole route. The car's outside thermometer ranged from a min of 4.0C to a max of 6.5C. No ppn on the windscreen or in sight for the whole journey.

Got caught in a nasty little hail shower, which then became a brief snow shower, about an hour ago. Snow/hail lay where they fell.

Now we have rain and sleet again washing the earlier effort away. Notable difference is the strength of the wind which has really picked up.

It's a fair point. It's January, it's 8pm, it's pitch black, we are under crystal clear skies here and yet the temp is 4.1c. We've been colder at this hour under zonal conditions this winter.
