Zero snowfall here in this crapfest of a cold spell but at least we've managed our first frost in over two weeks.

Looks like I might have missed some snow at home then. I was in South Devon yesterday (Woodbury near Exeter) and there were some brief showers of proper snow. Also some patchy snow lying beside the higher reaches of the A361 over Exmoor.

I'm not saying Kent wont see any snow at all, but the opportunities will be limited now.

It's utterly sodding dire out there. The occassional sleetiness, but thankfully no wind.

Had about 5cm lying snow when I left home at 8:30am, and it was still coming down nicely. Journeying north east showed a similar picture, with maybe a little more around Farnham, and the queuing traffic trying to get onto the Hog's Back told its own story of disruptive amounts there. Around 2cm in SW London, which is now melting fast.

Viewing the cameras suggests wet snow is falling above 100m in the east of the county giving slushy accumulations above 130m.

Ties in well with parameters of -7c (850Hpa), -1c (925Hpa) and thicknesses now of 523dam.

Parameters become favourable again for lower level stuff from 3am Thursday morning (as has been the case now for several runs).

A hefty snow shower around 11 am this morning turned earlier rain/sleet to wet snow and it settled above 100m asl, but bow mainly metled.

EURO4 goes for a period of snow this evening clipping the SE - higher ground may see some accumulations.

Much more in the way of snow now, but still too sleety if you know what I mean...

Yesterday evening's snowfall looked more impressive in the dark than it turned out to be in daylight.

It's little more than a dusting really, and not enough to cover the fields completely. This photo taken at 09:00 this morning.

There was one brief moderate snow shower this morning, but the sun is now hard at work and I'd be surprised if any lying snow not in the shade lasts till sundown. However, it's better than nowt and a result at last

Anyway, back on topic, now that there is a fair amount of clear skies oeverhead, I can see a possession of snow-laden cumulonimbus marching westwards along the Strait Of Dover.

Without vast areas of snow across the country to chill the air, and a fair old wind picking up with a 2m temp of 1.1*C and a dew point close to zero, it's doing some real damage to what remains of the snow here. I've never been in this situation before - hanging on to some of the last lowland lying snow in England.

It's weird because I'm used to being annoyed at losing my snow before most of the rest of the UK. I keep having to remind myself that this wasn't event up to 'event' standard for most parts. It's like I've swapped places with some high altitude settlement in Wales.

Looking back, I'm glad I stayed up to watch it come down, as that's where this event scores highest; the rate of accumulation was impressive at times. Peak depth was fairly typical of a significant event while the longevity is pretty lame for the start of February.

If I was to do the ratings it would be 8/10 for the deposition, 5/10 for the peak depth and 1/10 for longevity.

Still immeasurably better than last year managed

Just a dusting from this mornings shower, A bit disappointed that we didn't get more but I would imagine that the cloud line changed course to a more southerly direction once it reached here, shame, still it did look a bit more like winter. A work colleague who commutes from somewhere in south Dorset told me they had 3 inches of snow by the time she left for work.
