I'd get more of a blizzard here if I was to fart in front of a bottle of talc.

At Sheperdswell 125 m asl presently and we have graupel showers. I guess it was predictable that as the -10 uppers come across there is shallow convection with cumulus clouds. This is ideal for producing graupel -Soft hail or polystyrene balls. A surprisingly decent covering here over earlier snow. A pleasant surprise.

It was almost a cruel joke from the gods to tell me what I could have won.

A 40 hour window of this type of convective opportunity was reduced to a measly 6 hours eventually...gutted.

A few flakes in the wind here as the dregs of a shower pass to my North.
Come on Siberian blast, do your worst LOL

Some decent trains have set-yup I see about 100 miles south in The Channel, where of course they are mostly sleet and rain.
In about 6 hours it'll all be over and we can get on with the endurance test of a boring high pressure.

Do 90% of the forum members live in the south east, few snow showers in Kent and 6 pages in one day

Was a cm here in the early hours most soon melted, and the odd remaining patch of snow left over from previous falls was destroyed by some rain showers later on

Still have some snow in the garden and on some rooftops here, bitter wind. I Have camcorded the snow on my Phone but will have to wait for my daughter to come home from college and upload it to my you tube account. Its not much snow but seeing as it only came down for about 12 mins it did settle well. But looks like that is it now till Next Winter, with the boring High pressure over us. How on earth did it Snow with a pressure of 1020 it baffles me.

Lovely calm morning with frost and freezing fog -0.6c. Our last snow patch will probably melt today, the hills in the distance and the western half of Bradford still look very white.

Was an ok spell here but very good above 250m just to sw of here.

Its going to be a raw day here today sunny sky but the temp at the moment is 3.5C and blowing a Gale F8 from the NE. The wind chill must be well below 0.

The last snow shower past through here at about 11pm last night and left a small "token" covering this melted over night.

However this morning it has re frozen in the wind chill and left a sheet of ice on my decking.

Looks like its going to remain well below average albeit dry here for a while, with the air keeping and Easterly element to it.

In all not a bad cold spell for my area really.

Anyway, my drive down to London & back yesterday was meteorologically uneventful.

Some very light snow was falling around Birmingham in the morning. The Chilterns were marginally white but, once you got close, cover was thin & patchy. Temp (according to the car) dropped from 4c, which it had been most of the journey down, to 2.5c near j6 of the M40.

On the drive back, some very light snow near Stoke (temp 3.5c). Back home, we'd had some drizzle and the temp had climbed to 5.5c (7pm'ish)

Temp IMBY was +2.8c at midnight. By 7am it had fallen to -3.1c. Shows what clearing skies can do!

Another sprinkling of snow overnight accompanied a hard frost.

4 snowfalls now - none of which have given more than 2cm temporary accumulation and snow laying for apx 36 hours max.

It has felt cold on a few odd days

Nothing special for this part of the world but so much better than the last 2 years and we still have a good 10 weeks to see some more snow if the atmosphere changes.

A stunning afternoon.

Maximum temperature here was 4.2c but with dewpoints hovering around -2.5c everything is now dry.

Yesterdays light snow cover has been preserved in the shade over the higher ground meaning I have enjoyed a sparkling sunshine, alpine blue skies, a hint of winter and signs of early Spring.

Weather for the soul.

Now that the cold spell appears to be coming to an end (albeit slowly), I think we should all (as a nation) express our gratitude to P!ers *****. If he hadn't written to the Prime Minister on 23 January (http://www.***********.com/) with Weather Action's "Extreme" warning for February, I shudder to think how the nation would have coped with the sprinklings of snow and a terrible weather type called "frost", which are both seemingly "extreme" winter weather. phenomena. Looking back, it really puts December 2010, January 1987 etc into perspective - I thought they were harsh and severe spells, but the last couple of weeks have clearly been in a different category altogether.

We are, according to P!ers, in "the new mini Ice-Age", so we should brace ourselves! I have cleared my local supermarket of salt, de-icer and bottled water in preparation. I'm surprised that a national newspaper hasn't picked up his forecasts and presented them in a calm, balanced way for the benefit of the nation...
