Well well well....proper snow here at the moment, despite the temp being at 5.1C. Not settling though.

Ive never seen sleet at that temp before... it lasted a good hour or two aswell. The atmosphere must have been very cold just a 100m or so above our head....

Snow down to sea level in Edinburgh this morning as snow showers have come East through the central belt over the last 24hrs
16 cms level this morning in Aberfeldy, Perthshire. Here in Dundee 2-3 cms away from town centre. Some wintry flurries continuing with sunny spells in between..
We were sat under the snow showers for a lot of last night and some heavy showers this morning.
Seven inches on the car when i moved it at lunchtime. The thaw and drip drip drip is now on. Hope the next batch coming in manages to stay as snow.

Can anyone please explain why it snows heavier at increased Altitude (i.e hilly areas) ?
