Well well well....proper snow here at the moment, despite the temp being at 5.1C.  Not settling though.

After flurries of snow earlier we've just had a sudden blizzard-like snow shower here in South Edinburgh

Ive never seen sleet at that temp before... it lasted a good hour or two aswell.  The atmosphere must have been very cold just a 100m or so above our head....

Yes frequent showers of soft hail, snow, sleet, the lot! Good fun to walk in, I suppose. All nuisance value really at this altitude. We'll see what tonight brings.

Got caught in the wintery showers this morning.. Was stinging my face  with hailstone whilst fetching in   the bins... Afternoon remained sunny but breezy.

Some people walk in the rain.
Others just get wet.

Heaviest snow shower in 2 years here though that's not saying much and it only lasted 10 minutes. There is a feint white tinge to the grass though!

Heavy shower this morning  in South Oxfordshire.  Started as rain but rapidly changed to sleet and then  snow - quite pretty

16 cms level this morning in Aberfeldy, Perthshire. Here in Dundee 2-3 cms away from town centre. Some wintry flurries continuing with sunny spells in between..

We were sat under the snow showers for a lot of last night and some heavy showers this morning.

Seven inches on the car when i moved it at lunchtime.  The thaw and drip drip drip is now on.  Hope the next batch coming in manages to stay as snow.

Apologies if this is the wrong thread.

Can anyone please explain why it snows heavier at increased Altitude (i.e hilly areas) ?

We had about 45 minutes of snow at lunchtime in the centre of Aberdeen today. Welcome to April!
