Not all UK showers are lame. I'm not sure Marigold would agree with that after having her window smashed by one.

Not sure I see many places getting into the low 30s at midday, and I've not seen that forecast anywhere either???

Naturally Heathrow is the warmest place at the moment at 21c. Not a chance it'll jump 10c+ in two hours

I take these Estofex things with a huge dose of salt as they always seem to forecast far worse than rarely happens. However, in this case, unless I'm reading it wrong (possible/probable) they are forecasting a level 1 for southern England. Possible large hail and extreme precipitation. No mention of 'very' large hail or tornados of any sort?

Im surprised by the lack of chatter for tonights activity. The Beed/Met are properly Ramping on tonights potential. But I just cant see it being that severe going on the latest charts

Does anyone have any know how or explanation for tonight's front?

Says 25.5oC on my garden thermometer which makes today the warmest day of this 'heat wave' for me. Tuesday was 25oC, Wed 20oC, yesterday 19oC.
Wed was a strange one; it was 19oC at 6.45am as I went in the sea for surf no.1 of the day. 20oC at midday, 17oC at 4pm, as I got home from surf no.2.
The wind went onshore about 3pm and the temp responded, dropping immediately. All forecast though, very accurately for MBY.
Now just waiting to see if these thunderstorms happen tonight ..... ? :)

Don't look or feel much like storms down this way. Doesn't feel humid and sky is looking rather benign.

While we ease into some relatively fresh weather let's turn attention back to France where the canicule is still in full swing:

All time temperature records set on Tuesday for Boulogne, Dieppe and Melun with Paris hitting its second highest reading of 39.7 beating the 2003 heatwave.

40C recorded Tues in the SW and today in both Vichy and Clermont Ferrand in the Massif Central. I'm waiting to see if that's a record or not.

Last 4 days in Southern Burgundy have been 35, 38, 37, 38. Next 4 days forecast on the 12z GFS to hit 38, 39, 35 and finally 40 in a last hurrah before it gets cooler.

It's every bit as intense by day as the 2003 heatwave, but I do t think the human cost will be anywhere near as severe because it's just over he the duration of that event, and the nights have been notably cooler (around 20-21C compared with 25-26C in 2003). It's the warm nights and humidity that kill people in heatwaves.

I think this is partly a function of airmass source (Spain via Pyrenees), partly time of year.

With a bit of luck we'll miss any showers entirely here. Wouldn't want to be further north.

Each to their own though. Some weirdos don't like the heat either.

The type of heat so many of us were clamouring over on Wednesday is actually very dangerous to a lot of people - so the same question could be asked.. why would anyone want that?

It's just interesting though - that's why we're all here, right? Because we find weather interesting.
