A large line of cells have just exploded to my north going in NE direction, I can't be certain but it did look like there was a short lived vortex looking cloud coming from the base of the big cell.

No audible thunder from my location, but somewhere nearby got a soaking.

I watched this pop up from nothing to a full blown convective line back to a petering line all within 40 minutes.

Just had a peek at parameters for this pm and there's some quite juicy theta-e being pulled into the southern flank of the developing low as it moves ENE along the Channel. Some 500m2s2 or so CAPE is realised mid to late afternoon along the coast of France.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a few storms from the IOW east in the wake of the main rain band, and perhaps more so across the far SE this evening.

Properly chucking it down at this end but no lightning observed (or perhaps I've not looked hard enough).

I think I must easily clear 25 mm since 5 pm. Certainly a real lawn soaker.

Cheshire Gap effect in progress. Can see clouds streaming down, they seem to hit a spot and suddenly explode, should be on my time-lapse for today.

The Cheshire Gap effect was evident the first part of the morning before a wind direction change pushed convective cumulus inland.

And a sun halo evident for a short time from around 2.20 on the vid. Cirrus ice crystals from the leading edge of the approaching Atlantic system refracting the sunlight

Few heavy showers today with some pretty decent cloudscapes. More showers around midday than the rest of the day.
Observations from around GUILDFORD in SURREY and now Nottingham
