From what I've read, the Dortmund players struggled to adapt in their first season under Klopp, before some were shipped out & new players brought in.
Don't forget, this Liverpool squad was totally inherited by Klopp, and he had no input into the pre-season.
There's no doubt that for years Liverpool's recruitment policy has been shambolic. By all accounts, there was a power struggle between Rodgers & the Transfer Committee. You could tell the TC signings, because Rodgers wouldn't play them. Apparently last summer Rodgers wanted Benteke; the TC wanted Firmino. Heels dug in. In the end the compromise was to sign both.
The result of all that is that £millions have been wasted (and we don't have deep pockets by modern-football standards) and we're left with an unbalanced squad.
I think if Klopp could have turned it around more than he has and we'd be challenging strongly (and wins against West Ham, Newcastle, West Brom, Palace in the past few weeks would have had us right up there), then I think Klopp would have looked to bring some key players in this Jan. As it is, only if one of our targets becomes very much available at the right price (or looks like being snapped up by a rival) will we make any signings, with Klopp wanting to see how the existing squad can develop/play.
