Interesting how this so called "Bitterly cold spell with northerly winds" - still provides average temperatures of 8c for London.

Who described today as having northerly winds? They may be in Devon and Cornwall but that's somewhere near the equator anyway. 

Most of the UK has been and is under winds from an easterly quarter. The northerly (mostly dry) is due tomorrow.

Drove to Cheesefoot Head this morning because when we have 1 or even 2 degrees and sleet here, it almost always seems to deliver. Heavy sleet, almost horizontal in a fresh Easterly.

Down in Beauworth and up to Millbarrow and there was wet snow mixed in- could see it here in the air, actual white pieces, whereas at Cheesefoot it was only the icy splats on the windscreen that gave the game away.

Interesting it was more wintry almost 100ft lower. Maybe the overnight low was lower.

Is that Braemar in Scotland that is around 1200ft ASL?

Yes as opposed to the part of the U.K. where one poster believes it should always be subzero despite the fact it is the warmest corner of the U.K. 

It is of course cold in other places it's just that webcam picture was nice.

Snow lying above about 300m here today, snow falling and not settling this morning at our home (190m), took a drive up to craswall and there was a good inch or two above 350m, more with increasing altitude. Top farms in Craswall were very white and good covering on the lanes . Expecting more mid week.

It looks like a "Kent Clipper" is trying to form over the North Sea and heading south-westwards towards our region as I type this, but I fear that the parameters (upper air, dewpoint, etc) may still be too warm for snow production, especially since surface temperature is 5.2 C - warmer on this time yesterday. But, since the uppers are just that little bit colder, it could bring a touch of wintry flavour over them thar hills in the next hour or so if precipitation is heavy enough to drag cold down from aloft.

If that only resulted in showery rain (on top of the 6.3 mm's worth of drizzle yesterday) for us for the rest of today, then that would be a real waste of a perfectly good winter set up. More disappointment to an already disappointing winter in terms of snowfalls.

Can report more drizzle alternating with some hail showers here on the coast. Wasted kent clipper as expected but the hills should see a wintry mix at least

A cloudy day with fairly frequent light rain showers. A heavier shower around 10.30 with some elevation (100m) saw a wintry mix of soft hail and sleet.

Air 4.1c / Dew 2.6c.  It reached 4.9c earlier in some bright spells.

Showers of sleet and snow are likely at times during Sunday and overnight into Monday when they will also affect some southeastern parts of England, although the showers here will generally be a mix of sleet and hail near coasts. Accumulations of 0-2 cm of snow are likely in places at low levels, but locally 2-5 cm over hills and where showers become aligned in bands in the northeasterly flow. Ice will be an additional hazard overnight, particularly after showers.

Please be aware of the potential for difficult travelling conditions.

This warning has been updated to extend the end time until midday on Monday, whilst also extending the warning area southwards across some central and eastern parts of England, chiefly for late Sunday evening onwards.

Showers will feed in on the north to northeasterly winds, particularly affecting the more northern and eastern parts of Scotland, along with northern England during Sunday daytime, but progressing further south into the north and east Midlands along with parts of east and southeast England during Sunday evening and overnight into Monday. Not everywhere will see the snow showers, but some may become aligned in bands from time to time, leading to the risk of some moderate accumulations of snow, most likely over northern Scotland and northeast England.

I'm convinced we wont see snow IMBY but a possible surprise for a lucky few in the north east UK with elevation.
