You know, reading these reports makes me feel like I'm living in a totally different country! Still not a single snowflake this (or last) winter

This really is quite an impressive event.

Oh look! It's the headline story on BBC UK news! I bet if it was happening in the South east, it wouldn't be the main headline...the Beeb is so Manchestercentric!

A spots of rain during the last hour now bits of blue sky showing its hand, oh and the familiar sound of drip drip, drip.

Finally some heavier snow but the ground is too wet for sticking. Great to see NW England doing well after so many poor years.

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

My son lives in Stalybridge, from photos he has sent me, theyve had about 12-14cm, not quite 15cm from what I can see. Still - getting on for 6-7 hrs of snow, which by any event is pretty impressive.

Here on the wirral, the rain has pepped up this past hour, temp has risen from 0.7*c this morning up to about 3.7 now. Thats our lot of snow for now.

Still snowing quite heavily, just been down the garden to measure the depth, a level 2 inches.

The temperature is slowly rising though, now up to 1.1C

All the spring growth is buried under snow, you couldn`t make it up could you?

Crazy weather!

Like I said earlier, if it would have been falling onto frozen ground, I reckon we'd have had 15cm+ by now. Instead, it's hard not to think of it as a frustrating waste of a snowfall.

PS - in response to Ian 'Shropshire' Brown, I'm not sure where you get that NW England has had 'so many poor years' in terms of snow. The period from 2009 has been one of the snowiest in all of my 44 years (at least in my neck of the woods) with at least 5/6 snowfalls of >10cm, and another [at least] 6 with a covering of at least 2cm.

It's hardly Cairngorm stuff but, historically, it's a snowy period - and certainly more snowy than most other parts of lowland England.

Driving south from Edinburgh and hit the snow zone Leeds/Wakefield. Still snowing at 1.5 C there even on the A1. Now in Notts and into the less cold bright SW winds. What a contrast!

There is a definate snow line in Stoke. I live just under 200m and we had snow all night but not settling as 1c. Just up the road it is settling at 200m with about 1cm or so. Get into Brown Edge and above 300m and it is 5cm or so. Add some more then for the Peaks. Well forecasted for this area. Temps of -1c on higher ground.

Meanwhile at work in Brum its 5c.

Mrs S reporting that the heavier snow stopped in 'Tellins some time ago, and it's been a mix of light snow, sleet & some drizzle at times. No lying snow left.

I think what's helped Manchester is the intensity of the PPN.

Still snowing, 6cm now, temperature 1.5C

It was snowing when I first looked out the window at 7am this morning, so we`ve had around 8 hours of continuous snow.
