This month really is messing with the competition; anyone predicting a CET in the 8's did a good job as far as the first three weeks or so of the month are concerned - it takes something extraordinary to send the CET down instead of up during the final week.

It's frustrating as hell when you're on the wrong side of it - but then, we have to remember that we all at some point benefit from this too at times

The exact official figure was 7.46C which is just below the 7.47C recorded in April 2013.

Looks like the last week of April 2016 was the coldest in terms of the CET mean for almost a century.

The second half to April 2016 looks like it was between 3.5C to 4.0C cooler than the second half of December 2015.

No wonder it still looks like March outside.

Well that was a month where I zigged when I should have zagged, it was always a risk going for a warm April though.

Here are the charts for April. A cool month but similar to some recent April's including 2013.

The closest prediction to the actual outcome of 7.46C was 7.6C by springsunshine, Tractor Boy and Duncan McAlister.

Overall Spring is now well below average but nowhere near as cold as 2013.

A very cold end to the month. The CET mean of 7.46C on the final day was the coldest figure for any day of the month apart from the 1st.

Going back to some stats I mentioned earlier in the month it has been confirmed it was the coldest last 8 days of April since 1908.

CET mean for the coldest last 8 days of April since 1900:

1906 5.03C
1908 5.39C
2016 5.59C
1941 5.73C
1981 5.76C

Annual CET competition - April update

Some big changes in the tables this month. We have a new leader in Frank H with springsunshine moving up into second place.

Plenty of big climbers elsewhere in the top 10 with Rob K, Duncan McAlister, Tractor Boy and Snoeshow all making big gains this month.

At the other end Weatherfan2 is so far off the scale I have not even tried to show his full bar chart as it will distort the rest of the table.

We lost five people this month (as they exceeded more than 2 missed predictions) which is why those at the bottom of the table have climbed a number of places this month.

Still early days and the tables are quite bunched up so I suspect there will be lots more changes in the months ahead.

I will post up the list of May predictions on Friday evening in the May thread.

Thanks for the tables GW.

I'm surprised how well I'm doing considering I haven't had any particularly good months, just no bad ones.
Somehow don't think it will last.
