It's an interesting forced line now running quite rapidly west across southernmost counties of England. Not often you see such a thing moving in such a way. It actually resembles a tropical wave - but with less intense convection of course! High-resolution radar captures the rolling nature of the leading edge very nicely. Given the fairly clear skies ahead of it, if it was daytime I imagine you'd see a formation rather like a gust front. If only!

We'd also be seeing some dramatic events as surface heating factored in. As it is, any electrification as it moves over land will depend on updrafts forced by higher terrain I expect - this being a good possibility due to the steady easterly flow near the surface.

The models sure have struggled to capture the path of this thing - though the morning BBC forecasts seem to have done well.

The Kent Weather Deflector being very efficient as the general rain stay away to our west and thus still dry and even quite bright at this end. Still not seeing anything popping up over the French side in terms of thundery activity just yet, but not expecting to do so until about 6 pm anyway - and even then confidence is still low.

This is the raintoday radar as at 3.30 pm . . .

Net radar showing an impressive area of rain to the south/southwest, some torrential rain across the west/south west Midlands. All pushing NE.

Could be in for a very wet evening here.

Continuous, heavy rain here in Sheffield for the last hour or so. Some localised flooding occurring now as it really hasn't let up. our driveway is flooded and the roads are quickly turning into rivers. Just starting to ease off a tad now, thankfully.

edit: maybe not. Throwing it down again now and internet and Sky signal going iffy.

It sure feels "plumey" out there this evening. The wind has died right down, and the air feels close. Skies are a little darker to the SW and so thought I'd check lightningmaps.org - glad I did! Hopefully some of it is heading this way...

Wow, very wet in places today. We've had 5mm. Max temp was 18C so it wasn't cold despite the cloud.

Just spotted a couple of distant flashes and heard a distant rumble, also starting to rain. At the moment it seems to be just passing by us but the potential is still there for later.

A few deep rumbles to my E/SE earlier, but that pulse appears to have eased off somewhat. Nice looking skies at times! Hopefully more to come...

EDIT: thunder picked up here again and close! Downpour. Signing off for now...

Well, that was quite a lively cheeky Kent clipper, got to see some impressive forks as it passed by harmlessly out at sea thus avoiding the nasty rain and gusty winds.
