I can believe the reports from Caterham. The worst cells here tracked up in a line centred on the A23 and M23. A zone from Crawley north through Redhill, Caterham, Croydon and then passing just to the east of the City bore the brunt with a line of 3 or 4 intense cells, before it more or less ate itself over North London. I got caught just north of Croydon, but my wife got absolutely drenched down in Reigate, which caught about 4 cells one after the other showing 'white' on Raintoday. I don't think much made it to the M25 to the north of London. Going by Lightningmaps.org I'd say the lightning was at about 5 strikes per second at its peak, although I'd be interested if anyone has the actual numbers?
As that cluster faded, a second group seems to have sprung up over the Chilterns / Luton area, which would reflect the reports from Harpenden.
Fascinating dynamics. Feels like summer 🙂
