Somewhere in the selsey Chichester area must have seen close to 50mm in the last hour going on the radar returns from that storm.

The potential is growing for a classic 80s-style all-nighter MCS for the SE corner tomorrow night as very humid and unstable air from the continent meets the trigger of a weather front.

The threat of homegrown surface-based storms (possibly severe) then develops throughout Thursday.

As ever, the positioning of the front - and therefore the most severe activity - is still subject to change, but the ingredients are certainly looking ripe for somewhere to get hit... and storm lovers will be hoping it doesn't all end up in the Channel and North Sea!

Here's an advanced warning from the Met Office: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=map&map=Warnings&zoom=5&lon=-3.50&lat=55.50&fcTime=1466550000&regionName=se

Monster of a storm erupted on the Russian border.

From nothing to the size of Northern England in the space of 90mins.

Models have been trying to pin this threat down over past couple of days, and whilst things may well change some more, this:

has fun and games for our friends in the SE corner written all over it.

GFS 12z does seem to keep the main threat over the Low Countries, so may be a Kent clipper, but things will change again no doubt by tomorrow.

Looks to me like in the yellow warning area we are likely to see more scattered but still quite potent storms, and in the amber area we're possibly looking at more organised bands of storms tracking NNE, quite likely in MCS clusters.
