No chatter on the next round of potential let-down, as shown on the E4 model for Tuesday?

Monday 18.00 - area of PPN (mix rain/snow) appears to the north of Scotland

Tuesday night it moves south, becoming completely snow by the time it's over southern Scotland

Providing it maintains its intensity, it would give a decent fall of snow over much of the country.

This has been a poor spell here - just one fall of snow that left a covering (a rather pathetic 2cm), most of which melted over the following 2 days. Not even had a frost. But it's going to get a lot worse from my perspective if more widespread snow hits the SE and we remain snowless

It is rather amusing that the only snow we have had here in Aberdeen fell during the first few hours since Wednesday that the city did not have a weather warning out for snow. Somewhat of a "forecasting fail" I'm afraid.

Maybe I should just hope the ones for the next few days are cancelled! Nice to see things look at least a little white. The ground is dry and frozen in places so the little snow there is actually blows across the frozen surfaces when the wind picks up. Looks pretty dry now.

Frustrated with the desperate non event of last night and the fact that the 2-4cms we have had (twice) have failed to last very long or be particularly impressive, I took the family into the Pennines. High areas have had much snow stripped by the wind, but all in all, very nice!

its a beautiful day here sun is shining. its actually quite warm in the sun bit chilly in the shade but all in all. it was a over hyped cold spell for us down S/SE/E/London,    this cold spell and the last one was more for midlands and up north to Scotland,

Just to add a bit of interest, I see E4 has placed an area of light snow from what can be described as a Wash Washer, moving across the E Midlands and NW EA later today and into the SE and C S England overnight.
The showers in Wales and the SW continue.

It also continues to play with the idea of SE streamers but we're going to have to wait until tomorrow to analyse the risk of these. As I said earlier, Thursday now represents the one day risk of these according to GFS and UKMO.

After a disappointing weekend scanning raintoday and checking the dew point I had given up on this cold spell. However, its just started snowing moderately and looking at the radar there is more to come. Temp is a bit high (2.8) and the dew point is marginal (0.2), but with a bit more intensity it might stick. What a surprise, just shows you should never give up!

Edit: it's those fabulous large flakes you get in marginal situations.

I must say, you were spot on with Thursday pm's snow, I got a heavy 30min snow shower out of that, together with light snow on both Saturday and Sunday the last few days have felt 'wintry'. smile

Bit of limp-wristed attempt at a cold spell here to.  A few passing wet snow showers gave something to watch fall last week but in all three cases the most we got out of it was the lightest of coverings which began to melt immediately the shower passed.  Looking ahead to the coming week and yes, at face value, I s'pose you can file it under 'cold' but not particularly so and certainly not something you wouldn't expect at some point every winter.

2ºc today which is the coldest day so far but with very light winds it doesn't feel particularly cold - even unzipped my coat earlier.  As the week progresses we're looking at values around 3ºc to 5ºc by day, and about -3ºc by night which rises to around 0ºc by the weekend (GFS).  These colder nights will be dependent on clear skies and as I look out the window it's turned overcast here.  Snow showers from the east can get this far but it's just that - a brief light (usually) shower passing by.  That apart it looks pretty much bone dry and boring.

If we can get the high to set up close enough then we could get clear crisp days with wall-to-wall sunshine and that, with virtually calm winds, would make for a very pleasant week.  But please don't let this turn in to a 'dirty' high with a slack easterly drift.  Temperatures just above freezing by day and night under cloudy skies with fog and drizzle truly is the worst of the worst weather type.

Just had a light snow shower down here. No covering just, to warm at 4.0C but it is dropping quite quickly was at 6.5C about an hour ago. The local forecast is for snow showers tonight and a min of -1.0C.

Its not expected to amount to very much but its better than nothing.

Another wintery day in the south west. Been a good 3 days down this way. Snowing again on the moors and wintery ppn down to low levels (just seen a report of snow near padstow). This set up is certainly interesting for SW peninsula, just a bit more colder and everyone down here would be happy.

Edit: Now snowing in Plymouth!!!

If the activity in the East and SE is to develop as per E4 we should start to see things building around the Humber and this evening into The Wash area, and indeed thing are starting to pep up around the Cleveland coast as the weak forcing veers slightly onshore.
May be worth a look during the evening if you're anywhere in a line Hull to Southampton and points SE of that.
