Wet weather affects much of the north today. In the south it remains dry with bright spells. Tomorrow further spells of rain are likely in the north and west but it will be turning warmer in the south. Through Thursday and Friday temperatures soar with 35C (95F) possible in the south. There is uncertainty about the weekend but cooler air from the Atlantic may gradually return southeastwards.

Tuesday starts wet in much of western Britain and Northern Ireland. Through the day outbreaks of rain push eastwards across northern areas and they will be heavy in Scotland. Patchy rain continues to affect Wales and north western England. Elsewhere it stays dry with variable amounts of cloud. The sunniest conditions will be in the south.
Temperatures range from 14C (57F) in the north west to 22C (72F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.
Tonight the rain fades away in Scotland but there will be heavier outbreaks in northern England and northern Wales. Southern counties remain mainly dry.

Tomorrow starts wet in northern England. Further spells of rain spread across Northern Ireland and into much of western Britain. Other parts of the country have mainly dry conditions with sunny spells developing. It becomes warm in central and eastern counties.
Thursday is looking fine in much of the country with just an odd shower in the west. Temperatures in central and eastern England are likely to reach a very warm 28C (82F).
During Friday showery spells of rain are likely in north western parts of the UK. Other areas have a fine day with sunny periods. It will hot in much of England with temperatures in the south east peaking at close to 34C (93F).
Forecast details for the weekend are uncertain. The most likely scenario is for cooler air to steadily return southeastwards. There is a risk of thundery showers breaking out.
