North to south split in the weather

Wet weather pushes across the northern half of the UK today but in southern and central regions it will be mainly dry. Things remain mixed through the next few days and temperatures generally remain close to or above the mid March average. Towards the end of the week it is likely to turn more settled.

Monday starts with showery rain in the north west. In other areas it is dry and there has been a patchy frost.

Through the day spells of rain push eastwards across the northern half of the UK. Southern and central regions remain dry and there should be a reasonable amount of sunshine.

Temperatures range from 8C (46F) to 13C (55F). See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight clear periods lead to a frost in much of the UK. However, there could be patchy rain in parts of eastern England. Also, it could turn wet and windy in the far north west by the morning.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain push into western Scotland and Northern Ireland. The rest of the UK should be dry and quite mild.

Changeable outlook

During Wednesday an area of wet weather affects much of the UK and over high ground in Scotland sleet or snow is likely. Through the afternoon it turns drier from the west.

Thursday is looking dry and bright in southern and central regions. In the north there is a risk of showery rain and over the Scottish mountains sleet or snow is possible. Quite windy in the north.

Friday is expected to be dry and mild.
