Autumn’s glorious colour, Mannings Heath golf club. Posted by baronvonuden

The north west has a showery day and in the south west patchy spells of rain are likely today. In other areas it should be mostly dry with variable amounts of cloud. The next few days see the mixed weather continuing and at times it will be windy as well as wet.

Thursday starts wet in the far south east and north west. However, in the vast majority of the UK it is dry and locally in the north there has been a ground frost.

This morning the remnants of the rain clear from the south east. In the north west an area of showery rain slowly pushes southeastwards, and it affects much of Scotland and Northern Ireland through the day. There is also a risk of patchy rain in Wales and the south west but other southern counties should be mainly dry, although often cloudy. Central and northern England have dry and often sunny day.

Temperatures range from 9C (48F) in the north to 16C (61F) in the south east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight showery rain moves southeastwards over the northern half of the UK. In southern and central counties outbreaks of rain push eastwards. Quite windy in the north.

Tomorrow the mixed theme continues, but rain increasingly becomes confined to the west. There should be a reasonable amount of sunshine in most areas, although in the south it could stay mostly cloudy.

Unsettled weather

During Saturday showers or longer spells of rain probably be focused on the west of Britain. Central and eastern counties of England are expected to be mainly dry. Rather cold in the north. Windy with the possibility of gales over high ground in the north and western coastal locations.

The current guidance for Sunday is suggesting dry conditions in the morning with sunny periods in much of the UK, but there could be showers in northern and western Scotland. In the afternoon it could turn wet and windy in southern Britain.

Early next week the unsettled theme continues with showers or longer spells of rain in all regions. Low pressure probably becomes centred to the southwest of the UK and it pulls warmer subtropical air northwards. In the south east temperatures perhaps head towards a warm 20C (68F).
