Large parts of the UK have a very wet day, with the heaviest rain expected to be in central and north eastern Britain. Things remain mixed this weekend, but outbreaks of rain become more showery, with longer dry and bright periods developing. However, the unsettled theme remains in place next week. Friday starts very wet in large parts of the UK. The heaviest rain is mostly focused on central and north eastern Britain, as well as Northern Ireland.
Through the day, very heavy spells of rain continue to affect Wales, as well as much of the north and east of England. In Northern Ireland it should begin to turn drier. Areas to the south and north have sunny spells and showers. Very windy in the northern half of the UK, with gusts of around 60mph in coastal counties.

Tonight, the worst of the rain becomes focused on north eastern Britain. Over the Scottish mountains sleet or snow is likely. The rest of the UK has dry periods, but there will be showers too. In the north east it remains very windy.
Tomorrow, much of Scotland has periods of rain, but the heaviest bursts are forecast to be in the east. Other parts of the UK have sunny spells, but there will be showers and some of them could be heavy. Mild in the south, cold in the north.
Sunday brings a mix of sunny spells and showers. After recent days there should be a marked improvement in the weather for much of the UK.
During Monday heavy outbreaks of rain may affect much of the west and south of the UK. Central and eastern areas are currently looking mostly dry, but it is too early to be confident about the details.
The unsettled weather is set to continue on Tuesday. Showers or longer outbreaks of rain are likely in much of the UK. Tuesday. It could also be windy.
