Yesterday saw temperatures reach 30°C for the first time this year, at Chertsey, Surrey. Today is likely to be slightly hotter, but a transition to more changeable and cooler weather is starting to take place. Over the next few days showers or longer spells of rain are most likely in central and northern areas, with the south often remaining dry. Northern and western areas of the UK have a few showers today. In central and eastern Britain it remains dry and sunny. Temperatures are expected to peak at higher levels than yesterday, making it the hottest day of the year so far. Values range from 18°C in the north west to 31°C in central and eastern England. Tonight, showery spells of rain become heavier in northern and western areas. In central and eastern England it remains dry, and locally temperatures may not dip below 20°C.
Tomorrow, showers or longer spells of rain continue in the north west of the UK and it will be windy. Other areas remain mostly dry, with the warmest conditions in the south. However, temperatures will be lower than in recent days.

The rest of the week is forecast to bring changeable weather. All regions could have showers or longer spells of rain at times, but the wettest conditions will be in the north. Amounts of rain in the south may remain very small, and in sunny spells it remains warm.
